On the Radar: Bomb plot details, midterm elections

Bomb plot - Yemen is tightening security at all airports in the aftermath of a plot to send bombs from the Middle Eastern country to the United States, its National Civil Aviation Security Committee said Monday.

New details in the package bomb plot have emerged, including that the explosive found in the United Arab Emirates may have traveled on passenger planes to get there, airline officials said Sunday. The explosives, including a similar device found in the United Kingdom, appear to have been designed to detonate on their own, the top White House counterterrorism official told CNN.

Officials have said a Saudi national is the suspect behind the bomb plot. Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri is one of Saudi Arabia's most wanted men, according to a list published by the government last year. The Saudi government described al-Asiri as an explosives and poison expert. CNN continues to dig in to who may be behind the plot, what information may have led officials to learn about the packages and more about the explosive, PETN.

Midterm elections - Democrats are predicting better-than-expected results for their side, while Republicans are downplaying the extent of their expected victory in Tuesday's midterm elections.

Top Democrats are making a last-minute push as the latest polls show the GOP has a large advantage. And on the eve of midterm elections, the number of Americans who say things are going badly in the country is higher than it has been before any other midterm race in recent history, according to a new poll.

CNN will be breaking down the most important factors in the midterm races, including: what's at stake in the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as the major ballot initiatives. You can find everything you need to prepare for the election and watch the races as they unfold at our Election Center or by looking at the CNN election app.

I don't get it. Why don't these people understand that you cannot, just cannot, examine the contents of every package sent to the US. Nuts, that printer got by sniffer dogs. We need to get Congress to fund the means to PROTECT US in the event of an attack. What if there were radioactive elements in that printer???

Here's the web address of a guy who's got the technology that would protect US from radio, bio, and chemical accidents or attacks, and he can't get Congress to help fund development of his proven tiles. This is RIDICULOUS.

Contact your Senator, contact your Congressman, contact the White house. Government is supposed to help us PROTECT ourselves, and they are screwing it all up by not paying attention to the real solutions to terrorism. We can spend billions in Iraq and Afghanastan, but we can't fund this guy's work???

    It's gotta change.

Wow! Imagine a few thousand "terrorists" disguised as illegal Mexicans easily entering this country. (so much for the terror-cell theory) and instead of bringing in cans of refried beans, they bring cans of anthrax, etc. and poison our unguarded domestic water supplies. What could our government possibly do to keep this from happening?

@Red...I would think the government would fund this "RBC Shield". Even though it would not stop "terrorists" from poisoning our water. It would make it appear that something more is being done though. And most Americans like more of everything lately.

P.S. I've never owned a tv, and very rarely watch the ones I come accross. Read the book "The Impact of Electronic Media on Social Behavior" to find out why.
