Baby survives 7-story fall

An 18-month-old girl in Paris, France, appeared unhurt after falling seven stories and bouncing off an awning into a man's arms, witnesses told Le Parisien newspaper.

Witnesses said the child and a sibling had been left alone briefly Monday in their seventh-floor apartment in the city's 20th arrondissement, east of the central city. The girl fell out of a window, but a boy on the street saw her falling and alerted his father, who caught the baby after she bounced off the awning of a tobacco shop and cafe on the building's ground floor, the paper reported.

The man with the quick reflexes and good hands, a doctor, looked over the girl and didn't find any injuries, but handed her off to an ambulance crew to be safe, according to Le Parisien.

Why is no one commenting on the fact that this baby and her sibling was left ALONE! The parents should be charged with NEGLECT – and sent off to jail/prison.

Are you "slow" or something? Parents leave 18 month old children alone in a room ALL THE TIME. The children probably were not alone in the HOME, just alone in the ROOM. God, parents can't be expected to monitor their children's every waking moment. The mother could have been in the bathroom for goodness sake!

Yes, send the parents to jail, then the children can be separated and shuffled through the foster care system. I'm sure that will be best for them. Sarcasm intended, of course.

LOL, seriously enjoyed many of the comments. A tragedy was averted, we don't know the full story on the whereabouts of the parents, bad things happen everyday as do amazing things. Let's all be happy that the baby survived and hope the parents learned a lesson if they were careless. If the parents were negligent then we can hope that French authorities fo something about it.

@laobao...so the falling baby that doesn't land on a doctor is cursed then? It's rediculous to think that just because someone is fortunate, God did it.

What the article does not mention is that the man with quick reflexes and good hands is THE Doctor, as in Doctor Who.

I heard on the radio news yesterday that the parents had left the apartment for a "short" walk and that the sibling was a 3 year old toddler. Not sure if this information is correct or not, but if it is the parents should be charged with neglect. I do think we coddle our children a bit too much here in the states, but leaving a 3 year old and a baby alone in an apartment just to go for a walk is ridiculous.
