Hundreds of women, children raped in DRC conflict

The long-running conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed hundreds of sexual violence victims in the past two months as women and girls continue to be prime targets of retaliation between rival militias along the country's porous borders, according to aid agencies.

At least 657 cases of sexual violence involving women and girls were documented in September and October during mass expulsions from Angola to
Congo, according to UNICEF.

UNICEF, which compiled the case information over the past two months with help from aid agencies on both sides of the border, said women, girls and possibly men were sexually victimized as about 6,621 Congolese nationals were expelled from Angola.

This is one of those tragedies that will just pass through the presidents and politicians hands and not one of them even care enough to take the actions that are needed to stop this once and for all, this is why I can't stand them and there cowering weak sniveling wimps, they should be made to live there in those conditions, all of them that have the power and authority to stop it and do nothing.

    • Better idea

If world powers are too fearful to fight, then supply the guns and bullets to the women and girls so they can defend themselves. You chicken leaders should be outraged.

The UN doesn't care, Washington doesn't care either. I'd support going to war for this. It won't happen though.

Where was the outrage in Washington when this was going on? Yet the right-wing thugs in Washington went ballistic when their stooge Mir Hussein Malavi lost to Mahmud Ahmedinejad in the 2009 Iranian elections!

As usual, Libs ready to spend a few more BILLION we don't have, and have our men and women of the military fight and die, when our OWN Citizens are killing each other in the inner cities of the USA. If you truly cared like your mouth says, you'd volunteer your time & money right here FIRST. I know it "Feels Good" to talk the talk, it's another thing to do more than that. But being Democrates, it's all you do...... Complain and hand out other peoples money. By the way, I'm a sponsor and a volunteer inner city basket ball coach, and the ONLY people who actually show up and work/donate are Republicans. The Dems are only interested in giving away the food at the mission, because they get to put on a big show of how generous they are to the needy. Oh well I guess it's better than nothing....

I would not neglect my own children to go and care for someone elses.
The government is so preoccupied with what's happening on the other side of town they can't smell the smoke from their own house burning down.
Fact: You can't save the world from itself.
We can't be everywhere else at once "fixing everything" and no one including ourselves should have such unrealistic fantasys.
The world isn't supposed to be some perfect place where nothing bad ever happens. This isn't phukking Xanadu or Narnia. Its a place that is inhabited by humans....Go sacrifice your own life to change the world.

Apparently not all tea party voters are that stupid. Christine ODonnel didn't win after all. I would agree that America needs to right it's own ship before helping others, but my point is that there is no outrage from the supposed bleeding heart left or the blood thirsty right wing base. At the very least the government could go into Africa to plunder the natural resources under the guise of "humanitarian" causes. That way the US could maintain the status quo as a corrupt super power while looking like it cares about the African continent. What happened to the greatest generation? All of them sacrificed so much and pulled together for a common cause. Now people are only concerned with assessing blame or their own wealth. Some of my fellow Americans are a bunch of lazy self righteous cowards.

It is incredibly amazing, that ppl spend so much time squabbling about party philosophy, money and other BS. When there are so many atrocities going on in the world. Have ppl lost their sense of humanity? Sometimes humanity calls upon humans to do the right thing.

Americans since the sixties have become lazy and complacent. They care only about their next bedroom conquest or the next feel good chemical they can put in their bodies. Americans are worried they will be drafted and ripped away from their cozy lifestyle and actually do a bit of work for once. None of these bloggers have ever swung a hammer to help build a home for a less fortunate family, nor have they worked at a soup kitchen. They know nothing of sacrifice yet half of them are quick to quote the Bible. Pointing a finger requires less work than lifting a finger to help.
