Amanda Knox to face slander trial

American student Amanda Knox, convicted last year of murdering her British roommate in Italy, was ordered Monday to face a new trial on slander charges, her lawyer Luciano Ghirga said.

The trial is set to begin May 17, 2011, he said.

She and her parents are accused of defaming Italian police in the wake of her arrest for the killing of Meredith Kercher. Monday's hearing determined that there is enough evidence to try her for libel.

Wow Italy, are we being a little over sensitive?

There are some severe spiritual overtones connected to this case. It's a millenium story being played out. Of lovers, of revenge, of friends and sisters and jealousy. I really doubt that the one life of Amanda Knox can explain it ... but she sure is taking the brunt of the outcome. Poor kid.
Careful of who's footsteps you'd like to follow or admire. Could lead to a deadly trap.

I wonder if this is pay-back for that Italian Negociator that was held hostage by the Iraqis, freed in a harrowing rescue, then shot by the allied american soldiers as he approached the border to freedom, back to freedom? That woman is plainly innocent. The Italians were very upset with us, for that Negociator's death. I agree with their being so upset.

It’s laughable how many (I can only assume Americans) who post comments about the Amanda Knox murder conviction and pending slander conviction always want to make this a conflict between ‘them’ (Italy) and ‘us’ (America). What a simpleton perspective. How many more posters are going to call for a boycott of Italian pasta or travel to Italy? Simple, simple, simple and even more laughable.

This is a story about a murderer who will have to pay for her crime. This is a story about a murderer who falsely accused the law enforcement authorities of beating her when they didn’t.

As an American, I believe that the 20 something years is far too lenient a sentence for Knox. She should spend the rest of her life rotting in jail behind bars; shame on her parents for every bringing Amanda Knox into this world.

I've learned something similar on this site, but I just don't know. I think with Suing for Slander it can be a different issue all together. Thanks for your info 🙂
