World's tallest Jesus statue completed

Workers in Poland finished erecting the world's tallest statue of Jesus over the weekend, a 170-foot (52-meter) giant that towers over the countryside near Swiebodzin.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfill Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfill his will," Father Zawadzki said after the head was attached by a 700-ton crane, according to a report from the Warsaw Business Journal.

A crane places the head on the world's tallest Jesus statue this weekend in Poland.

The height of the plaster and fiberglass Polish statue surpasses the 40.4-meter (133-foot) Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and the 39.6-meter (130-foot) Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to news reports.

Local officials in the town of 21,000 people hope it will be a tourist attraction.

"More people will visit Swiebodzin and leave their money," Radio Poland quoted Dariusz Bekisz, the mayor of Swiebodzin, as saying.

The cost of the statue was covered by local donations, according to the Krakow Post. It will be officially consecrated on November 21.

Do a little survey on the comments here, and then tell us which "side" is acting more arrogant. 😉

    Well Melissa,
I think that you're arrogant for looking down on this statue with such anti-christian impunity in your soul that you can't even appreciate a statue of Jesus built by private donations unless it was dipped in urine of course.

what a waste of money. They could have erected a giant statue of the cat in the hat for all we should care, it has about the same significance....except the cat in the hat made and still makes me laugh where the made up story of jesus just makes me not want to hear about it any more. There are no gods.

CORRECT! But money, power and influence trump true Christianity. Just ask any pedophile priest. Keeping the flock blind has been a modus operandi for centuries.

For the sake of argument if we accept that a Jesus existed that is like the one described in the modern bible, would he have approved of a statue like this? It does seem to go against many of the the teachings that were attributed to him...

Jesus was a pious Jew. He observed all the Jewish customs and rituals, attended synagogue and the Temple in Jerusalem. The Temple -both 1st Temple and 2nd Temple- were beautifully decorated structures. The Ark itself, in the first Temple, was elaborate and beautifully fashioned in quality wood and precious metal. Angelic images adorned the top of the Ark. The Holy Room of the Temple was stunningly decorated and furnished with beautiful objects of precious metals. The Temple curtain was also beautifully woven. The scrolls of scriptures used in the synagogues were beautifully illuminated; their coverings elaborately crafted according to the wealth of the local congregation. Jesus and his apostles no doubt celebrated the Passover with the 'best china.' Jesus never condemned these things. What he did condemn was forgetting the poor and pursuing justices. We cannot possess these things and ignore poverty and injustice. Let us not forget that man's creative artistic powers come from God; they are good, not evil. Let us also not forget that God became visible in Jesus Christ (the Incarnation). Jesus is the image of the Father. Anyone who has seen Jesus has seen the Father. The reference and honor paid to images of Jesus passes on to Jesus and because Jesus is the image of the Father that honor and reference pass on to the Father. It matters little what Jesus actually looked like. For Saint Augustine of Hippo it was enough that he look like a man.

All logic and reasons prove that Jesus is not God. Why? Because God Almighty can not die. However, we all are well aware that Jesus was dead for three days. So if Jesus is God the Almighty and he was dead for three days then what was the state of the universe in those three days. Who was in charge? That is question number one

2 If one can die and at the same can resurect oneself after he had died therefore any reasonable person has to conclude that Jesus was not really dead. So that would make him a liar and there is no ransom and christianity is nonsense. However, since we know that Jesus did die for our sin to buy us back inorder for us to be able to reconcile with his father and our father, so we can conclude that Jesus and Jehovah are two distint individual otherwise the entire bible should be burned and all of us should go on living any way that we please for tomorrow we shall die.

Jesus is indeed a god because he is the son of God so are all the angels in heaven, however, he is not Jehovah God.

Please read Prov: 8:22-31 for clarification on who is Jesus?

      John 1:14
Everything was made through Him – Jesus.
      Genesis 1:1
The word God in Hebrew is Elohim which refers to the trinity, so Jesus was present at the creation of the Universe and nothing that was made was not made through Him.
He was the Word – the Word of God and he later became flesh and allowed himself to be killed on the cross to die for our sins.

Just copied a couple of ridiculous responses from 'christians' below:

    Chi Rho
Hey "The Truth". Screw You. Lets see if you'll be singing another tune when you are judged after you die.

    ?
One day all you people making fun of Christ or saying he does not exist or isn't God will be in for a rude awakening. Laugh and scoff like they did in Noah's time. Their ending was not a pleasant one.

Personally, I refuse to accept the existance of a vindictive supernatural being such as this that these same clowns proclaim 'he loves us' Never liked Hitler myself so I'm not going to start with a carbon copy who deals out permanent punishment. Atheists have tested much higher in actual knowledge of religious history over Christians for a reason. They are atheists because of their ability to implement intelligent thinking and logic in their decision making process.

Will making a huge statue of him make him anymore real? No, still a mythical, fairytale figure. How many poor people could have been fed with the money it took to build that monstrosity? I thought Jesus was all about helping the poor. A giant mega-Jesus will just be an eyesore on the countryside.

At least many Christians try to help their fellow man...I hear about them everyday. Actually, I've never heard of any atheists organizing to VOLUNTEER to help people around the world....Please reply if you know of any atheist organization that has contributing to the less fortunate as their main goal....I can name very many Christian ones.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee ANY graven images.' What if this is the 'statue' or a similarity, spoken of in Revelation, that men will be forced to worship? It's NOT JESUS, but only a 'graven image' backed by twisted interpretations, made by the hands of men.
