World's tallest Jesus statue completed

Workers in Poland finished erecting the world's tallest statue of Jesus over the weekend, a 170-foot (52-meter) giant that towers over the countryside near Swiebodzin.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfill Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfill his will," Father Zawadzki said after the head was attached by a 700-ton crane, according to a report from the Warsaw Business Journal.

A crane places the head on the world's tallest Jesus statue this weekend in Poland.

The height of the plaster and fiberglass Polish statue surpasses the 40.4-meter (133-foot) Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and the 39.6-meter (130-foot) Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to news reports.

Local officials in the town of 21,000 people hope it will be a tourist attraction.

"More people will visit Swiebodzin and leave their money," Radio Poland quoted Dariusz Bekisz, the mayor of Swiebodzin, as saying.

The cost of the statue was covered by local donations, according to the Krakow Post. It will be officially consecrated on November 21.

Deuteronomy7: 9 “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; 10 and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face. 11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

I am paraphrasing a good quote "Nobody talks so much about God as those that claim not to believe in Him". So very true, so very true.

For those that take the time to post a message saying how much you don't believe in God. Ask yourselves why you felt the need to say it. I mean really, why if you don't believe do you feel the need to 1) read a religious article 2) post a message stating that you don't believe and 3) bash those that do believe.

I would argue that it is because you are trying to convince yourselves because life is so much easier if you don't believe that you will be held accountable for your actions and words.

    Good luck with that!

Can the same thing be said about Hitler, or torture, or Kim Jong Il? Just because you are against something or someone and are quite vocal on the subject doesn't mean you support that thing or someone.

If you want to fight against a person or subject, if you want to let everyone know just how bad that person or thing is, you will have to speak louder than those who support it.

Common sense really, nothing is going to change if you just keep your thoughts to yourself. Then again, Christians don't have common sense, they have blind faith.

I have a dragon in my garage by the way, BELIEVE!

A 170-foot "Jesus" huh? Of course he's white - and looks a lot like Charlton Heston. I hope the Poles are happy with their new Messiah Monster (is there an accompanying thrill-ride?)

    Lets try this way:
Exd 20:3 ¶ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exd 20:4 ¶ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:

    Exd 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;

People always point to religion as a source of genocide but the biggest genocides in the 20th century were perpatrated by athiests, Hitler, Stalin, Poll Pot, Mao Zedung, the list goes on yet for some reason this fact is always over looked.

Gee, this is way better than if the culmination of his life's work as a priest had been to maybe feed some hungry people, or help orphaned or abused children, or maybe protect some war refugees or genocide victims. The world's biggest representation of Roman Jesus is pretty awesome, too. I guess. If I learned anything from the bible it's that Jesus was very vain and would be thrilled to see himself 170 feet tall and wearing a crown and not wasting time and money helping people.

Couldn't the money have been better spent doing the lords work rather than this blatant idolatry. Isn't this exactly what Jesus opposed? Leave it to a Christian to have to have their religion explained to them by an atheist.

The article is factually incorrect in that this is NOT the tallest Jeezus ever. It falls some 730 feet shy of the 900 foot tall Jeezus seen by Oral Roberts a few years back. That Jeezus, if I recall correctly, was going to kill (cal home) Oral Roberts unless his followers coughed up several bazillion dollars in contributions. I think that a 900 foot tall extortionist Jeezus is muc more impressive than this one!

It is not purely religion that creates wars. A vast majority of religions are good. It is not the general public which creates wars. Ask your neighbor. Ask anyone in the mall. Ask a person in France, Germany, USA, Saudi Arabia, Africa etc. It doesn't matter. People don't want war! It is the few in power who are greedy and evil who manipulate others to go out and kill innocent lives. It is the military who is victims of this manipulation. That is why the educational system in the US is so weak. The weaker this system is, the easier it is to manipulate others. Many soldiers will tell you that it doesn't matter why they do what they do becasue they do it simply becasue they are told to. Religions are good and if you're an Atheist then as long as you live for something, someone bigger then who you are, your children, helping the poor, etc. then who cares. Let the statue stand and persuade goodness. If you don't need the statue then look away. It's all good. I don't see what the issue here is folks? Education is the answer. Let it stand
