World's tallest Jesus statue completed

Workers in Poland finished erecting the world's tallest statue of Jesus over the weekend, a 170-foot (52-meter) giant that towers over the countryside near Swiebodzin.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfill Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfill his will," Father Zawadzki said after the head was attached by a 700-ton crane, according to a report from the Warsaw Business Journal.

A crane places the head on the world's tallest Jesus statue this weekend in Poland.

The height of the plaster and fiberglass Polish statue surpasses the 40.4-meter (133-foot) Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and the 39.6-meter (130-foot) Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to news reports.

Local officials in the town of 21,000 people hope it will be a tourist attraction.

"More people will visit Swiebodzin and leave their money," Radio Poland quoted Dariusz Bekisz, the mayor of Swiebodzin, as saying.

The cost of the statue was covered by local donations, according to the Krakow Post. It will be officially consecrated on November 21.

@Julie: I agree with you. That post was for someone else. It was supposed to be in the reply but it ended up as a post. Go figure.

And that's why the whole world treats Poland like a retarded part of the world. Shame.

Now the real race is on... which team will create the largest piece of toast on which the image of this giant Jesus will mysteriously appear? My money is on the tag-team of Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell

Guys stop insulting people's religious beliefs. Not everyone is going to believe everyone. People have their own beliefs so let it be.

I hope my Pastors will see true color and height of Jesus even Jesus fancy gold, our pastors got it wrong completely becuse he use to preach golds are forbiden as Jesus showed him with blue print whilst he was sleeping but it seemed Jesus has golden crown if i might got it right through this image or maybe it's costĂąme because all things that glitters are not gold. But above all God, Jesus and Prophets are good to me is the people that misundrstood their messages to the World moreover no one can give account of how mighty they are, they are more than what we think if they are truly and geniuelly sent their word to the Universe.

Would have more impact, if Jesus had been Anglo-Saxon.

Looking at his face, neck and shoulders, this particular Christ looks pretty well fed and seriously buff. Just noticing.

You mention Jesus and soon after comes phrase like 'burning in hell' and 'end of days'. First of all , doesn't it seem odd that basically we are forced to believe something or suffer the consequences? In a country like America doesn't that seem against all other principles and values we hold And I have to say you'll scare me with the end of days crap because the only one thing that will bring this to reality is mankind.

"More people will visit Swiebodzin and leave their money," Now that's what organized religion is all about, making mondey!
Still the only Christ Statue that is worth seeing is Christ The Redeemer in Rio.

To all of the hateful atheists: The devil is a liar!!! Why come on this forum and try to bash our faith? Do we laugh at you all everytime you fail to find the "missing link" aruged by Darwin's Theory of Evolution or try to disprove Noah's flood or prove the Big Bang THEORY?(because that is what it is a theory) It is because of who Jesus is, the Son of the True and Living God that I can say-we forgive you as Christ has begged the Father to forgive all of us. You will not anger us and make us sin with our lips (or typed words) and grieve the Holy Spirit. Amen!

"Do we laugh at you all" Sure, even the letter I quoted this from starts by calling atheists "hateful." You christians lie from both sides of your mouths. Darwin never said there was a 'missing link,' for example; you made that up hoping to sound smart. You sneer and hate at us and call it virtue.

Plaster and fiberglass?, is it a Disney attraction? Why doesn't anyone make anything out of stone or bronze anymore? Faith on the cheap I guess or maybe it's how to properly worship your god on a shoe string budget. Got to be keeping up with the Joneses. The fact that the polish are hoping more for it's ability to attract tourist dollars than gods favor is pretty telling I think. I wounder if it will burn down like touchdown jesus did?
