World's tallest Jesus statue completed

Workers in Poland finished erecting the world's tallest statue of Jesus over the weekend, a 170-foot (52-meter) giant that towers over the countryside near Swiebodzin.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfill Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfill his will," Father Zawadzki said after the head was attached by a 700-ton crane, according to a report from the Warsaw Business Journal.

A crane places the head on the world's tallest Jesus statue this weekend in Poland.

The height of the plaster and fiberglass Polish statue surpasses the 40.4-meter (133-foot) Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and the 39.6-meter (130-foot) Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to news reports.

Local officials in the town of 21,000 people hope it will be a tourist attraction.

"More people will visit Swiebodzin and leave their money," Radio Poland quoted Dariusz Bekisz, the mayor of Swiebodzin, as saying.

The cost of the statue was covered by local donations, according to the Krakow Post. It will be officially consecrated on November 21.

First of all let me say i am a sinner and 2nd what is your 2nd commandment (believers) bottom line No graven Images wood or Stone, carvings etc. should be made to be worshipped, bottom line. The pastor knows this but ignores it for whatever reasons. The unspoken truth is its prob. a tourist attraction...but really who gives a damn

Just swell! More incredible waste of resources and human effort to support a ridiculous fairytale. The human race has a LONG way to go before it can grow out of the lie of religion and dump the hucksters that brainwash us into believing this crapola.

Beautiful statue of the lord Jesus christ, and to those who say the money could have better ben spent on the poor, well thats just your opinion we could say the same thing about all that we have today thats beautiful that generations enjoy..

Through history people build that was make cutlure, some people who hate it just throw up the poor as an excuse to hate.

Considering how Jesus was not impressed by people praying on street corners, just how do some Christians think that this expensive idiocy would meet with his approval? My statue is bigger than yours? Look at how wonderful a Christian I am? Seems like vanity and arrogance have replaced what little good there is in religion.

I have never met AN ATHEIST who was not a fool, a liar, or a hypocrite. Usually, all there at the same time.

Are we all not made of the same material? Even SCIENCE can tell you that much.

When I read you I catch my head. What you know about Poland? Nothing !
We ! Polish people live in constant pain. Germany and Russia still rule us!
And this Jesus is not object for money.... Father Zawadzki think something elsey, People like to visit but this is not important.
This Jesus is a symbol of prayer. Poland is a Christian and Christianity there is more than people. Poland does not depend on money and tourists, just for help and justice.

Unfortunetly, 20% of polish society thinks like that. Good thing is that lots of them are old and will soon be dead, decreasing that number. Don't get fooled, Poland ain't so behind the times as it may seem.

przypuszczam, że nigdy nie byłeś w Polsce !! .. kraj chrześcijański ? ? ! !

Feed your faith, and your doubt will starve!

Jesus Christ can be your Lord and Savior if you only ask. I am a new Christian and I always wondered why the religious folks couldn't just live and let live. You believe in what you want and don't force it on anyone else, right? Except now that I fully realize the glory of God Almighty, the one true living God, I wish everyone could have that peace, and even the people who blaspheme him, whether they truly don't believe, or they just enjoy aggravating others online, I wouldn't wish the endtimes on any of you.
I have no doubt that God is real and I thank Him every day for saving me.
Ask and you shall receive. Knock and the door will be opened.
    God Bless You ALL!!!
