Train kills 20 cows

A herd of cows wandered onto a railroad line at the wrong time Tuesday, and it did not end well.

A 6,700-foot Norfolk Southern train plowed through the herd in the darkness about 6 a.m., a statement from the Clark County, Ohio, sheriff's office said.

The train, which was traveling at 38 mph, killed 20 cows, the sheriff's office said. The value of the animals was not known, and the owner was not named.

The accident, which happened about 40 miles west of Columbus, disabled the train's lead locomotive and blocked a rural highway for three hours, the statement said. No humans were injured.

No JohnnyR – It is a shame that the Train did NOT hit the piece of pencil-dick white-trash that you are and that way the world would be less one more piece of GARBAGE like you.

I suspect the owner did it purposely to thin out the herd 🙂

Time was when train engines sported an attachment on front, called a "cow catcher." Designed to kind of snowplow thru animals, throwing them to the side to prevent derailment. I don't know if modern engines are so equipped.

Those cows should have called a cab instead of hoofing it

Wow, I see CNN blog commenters here are pretty insensitive to the suffering of animals. Perhaps one day their
pet will be hit by a car, and they'll re-think their crude comments.

Cows are NOT pets. They are livestock, raised specifically for the purpose of being EATEN!!!

Two tanker cars from the train derailed–spilling steak sauce everywhere. The spill caused a truck hauling potatoes to crash into a propane distribution facility, igniting a blaze that baked all the potatoes. Minutes later, the dairy farm holding tanks ruptured spilling freshly churned butter onto the potatoes, extinguishing the blaze. First responders were so traumatized by the scene that they immediately called for easy chairs and began napping.
