Abbas muses petitioning U.N. for state recognition

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday asserted his government's right to petition the United Nations Security Council to recognize a Palestinian state if Israel refuses to halt settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

His comments were made to thousands gathered in the West Bank city of Ramallah to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the death of Palestinian
leader Yasser Arafat.

But he noted that the United States had cautioned that such an action would constitute a "unilateral move."

I'm actually all for a two state solution that's recognized by the world. When Palestine becomes independent again it will have to respect Israel's sovereignty. Basically if rockets go flying out of Palestine and into Israel then Israel is well within it's rights to defend itself. Both sides have been fighting for thousands of years and I see nothing that would stop that anytime soon.

Palestine can be become independent "again" as there NEVER was an independent state in Palestine since the Jewish Kingdom more than 2000 years ago. Further, if the Palestinian Arabs WANTED to have an independent state they would not REJECT it every time it was offered to them... and yes, an independent sovereign state was offered to Palestinian Arabs in 1948, 1967, 1978, 2000, 2001 and they've rejected it every single time.

I think he should.. and that the UN should recognize Palestine's boarders as the same as the 1967 ones. Take Israel out of the equation, so to speak... as they keep on building illegal settlements. The US and the ROW should acknowledge it...and thus, force Israel to move towards peace with the Palestinians.

I believe that you should think twice about it, Karla... In 1967 the Palestine's borders included ABOLUTELY NOTHING. There were only cease fire lines of 1949 between Israel, Egypt and Jordan. In 1967 these cease fire lines of 1949 were replaced by new cease fire lines of 1967... but you do not want THOSE cease fire lines to become borders, do you?

I have a message for Abbas, Netanyahu and Obama.
I will make this clear. All of Jerusalem belongs to God. It is to be Earth's capital. Move all your people out. All representatives from every country will be living in Jerusalem along with most every animal and many plants from all over Earth. It will be a place of peace and love. When all is said and done, there will be one religion for everyone. So get to it!
Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel.
Elat is the capital of the new Palestine.
If you do not agree to this soon. You know what will happen. Furthermore, you are wasting valuable time. You jeopardize the entire Middle East if you fail to do as told, do you not understand?
Sorry if the way this is being done is not what you expected but the time period requires different abilities. You will fail if otherwise, because your past and greed will cause you to. Something stronger than your past and greed, is required for you to succeed.

The UNSC resolution 425 of 1978 called for Israel's immediate and unconditional withdrawl from Lebanon. Well, here we are more than 30 years later and the occupation continues, the settlements contiunue and the fighting continues. There have been two more resolutions since then and the results are the same.

Lest we forget, in 1947 the U.N. voted to establish a Jewish state and an Arab state in Palestine. The Arabs rejected this thus bringing us to where we are today.

How about this for an option which may make everyone happy.
Have the United States ANNEX Israel as the 51st State.Evevyone is then a citizen of the U.S. and rights protected under the law.Hey,UTAH is all Mormon just about so if I were President I would run that up the flag pole and see who salutes.

Hmm interesting. Jerusalem capital of the world... Sounds kinda like a new world order which would mark the entrance of the Anti Christ.. As an objective observer I can say that the Israelites and the Philistines have been at it for centuries. Whatever settlements need to not be built to appease the Palestinians should not be built. I love what Israel represents socially in the middle east, but both sides need to cut it out. If Israel concedes to Abbas' requests and Hamas doesn't recognize it then Israel would be well within it's right to take out as many Hamas members as possible.

why Israel is required to appease pals again and again to just have them talk and how many times hamas needs to state its position for you to hear it. it (hamas charter) doesn't change with time – they are still seeking total annihilation of Israel. what are we waiting for then?

If anyone say IRAN or SYRIA attacked Israel if it were the 51st State they would obviously attacking the U.S. and you know what the outcome of that would be.
After Israel became the 51st State, Jews and Arabs could share control of all the Holy Places and or swap control every 2 years.I know all this is unrealistic but no ones found a solution as of today.

    Mark and CaptainObvious.
The two groups are fightlng over Jerusalem. They will continue to do so because of history. It is best neither control it. That is the decision. It has nothing to do with an Anti Christ. The fact is, it is just the opposite.
The president knows and so do others. So be very careful what you write because you have no idea what is taking place.
This planet has reached a crossroads and most people haven't the intelligence to know the great danger we are in and become aware we may not be alive two years from now.
I suggest everyone pray and resolve personal issues in their lives.
Oh and it has nothing to with 2012 prediction. The wrong math was used. It has to do with Iran being allowed to build nuclear weapons.

Thinker23. Do not ever attribute words to me again. Your logic is fuked up. In fact, do not EVER address me again.
Last time I fuking checked, Jerusalem is part of the Universe. Don't ever write of God to me again either. You don't even know him.
