'Pedophile's guide' pulled from

The controversial e-book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" has been pulled from, a spokesman for the online retailer confirmed Thursday.

The self-published title's appearance on led to a public uproar and calls for a boycott of the site. As of late Wednesday, more than 2,000 users had left comments on the listing, nearly all of them condemning the site for selling the title.

The e-book's author, Phillip R. Greaves II, said he published the controversial tome to address what he considers unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media.

When asked about the controversy, spokesman Drew Herdener would not respond.

Roger.. I am with you on this topic.. a 10 year old girl is a child i don't know what else to say but a child thinks a like a child, plays like a child. there's nothing divine about marrying a child i am against that religion maybe someone can elaborate a bit, help us understand the reason for such an act. I am again an open minded person.

The idea is that when a girl goes through puberty, she can have a child. Therefore GOD says she can have a child, what wrong with her getting married?? Thats the basic gist of it from a Religious standpoint. (Obviously theres a difference between marrying a 5 year old, and a 10 year old who is menstrating.)

Muhammad marrying a young girl has nothing to do with the religion per say that was just something ppl did back then in his culture (if not in every culture). This is 2010 and we have legal ages but back then and (even now) it was traditional for older men to marry young girls. This practice still goes on today in certain cultures, most likely in the country side of developing countries. No reason for not supporting Islam. Plus it's a religion so it's not a matter of supporting it but deciding whether or not you want to belong to it or not. All this Islamophobia needs to stop. It's pointless and only keeps the world in the state it is now.

Perhaps the cultural definition of pedophilia today was completely different then in part due to our life expectancy at the time. What was it? 25-30 years? We probably "grew up" much faster back then in every way. Including marriage.

You think so? I guess since I'm not a pervert, I don't see a difference. IMHO, TERRIBLY wrong in either case.

I read on another news site that although this story has generated in alotta bad press, it has resulted in only ONE copy of the book to be sold. The dude who wrote that and the people who read it are no less than disgusting.

The "unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media"??? Is this sycophant serious? If you molest little children, the facts alone portray you as filth.

I'm so tired of the censorship debate over this book and people misapplying the First Amendment. The bottom line is that Amazon was violating its own policies for sellers by including a listing that consumers, en masse, considered to be offensive. By pulling the listing, they played by their own rules. End of story.

    a) Mohammed was a pedophile; b) Hitler was a muderer; c) tbe author is an idiot. Hitler and Mohammed are where they should be (in hell). The author will get there in due time. Until then, put him in prison, general population, and let the other prisoners read his book.

"People... Relax... This book is obviously promoted by Amazon per request of FBI in order to track down and catch pedophiles. This book is obviously a bait for the sickos that... are lurking around out there trying to prey on our children."

Amazon can sell or not sell anything it wishes to, but if it is going to start pulling books based on public outcry, where does it end? Many people are appalled by the Quran and the Bible. Do we demand that they pull these books as well because we find some of their content morally reprehensible? I'm not going to by this book, and if you don't want to, you don't have to either.

I'm pretty sure the smart folks at Amazon can tell the difference between legitimate religious or historical books versus utter garbage about child molestation. This censorship argument is getting old.

Anyone who buys this book (or writes it) is clearly a child molester. Anyone who writes a murder mystery is a murderer. Agatha Christie was a serial killer. All of her books should be pulled as I find the idea of a person being killed in cold blood somewhat distasteful and I'd rather not read about it. In fact I'd rather no-one be able to read about it, because it will make the world a safer place and less people will be murdered. Thanks for understanding my point of view.

The difference here is in your example evil is portrayed as exactly that, evil. The author of the book in question is portraying evil as good; decriminalizing something that has been deemed wrong. What's more, one should interpret a work of fiction differently from other types of literature, such as a manual or self-help work, as this claims to be.

Maybe instead of plugging your ears and going blah-blah-blah some of you should read this book and understand the kind of situations your children could be in that would allow someone to take advantage of them, and how that act may be carried out. As a parent I'd actually be interested to understand who I should be watching out for and what, maybe even educate your children to be alert for the same things. I was taken advantage of by a male nurse at a recovery home I was staying at as a six year old and it wasn't until years later that it occurred to me what he was doing and what his true motivations were.

Let's just ban all books in general. That way no one will be offended and we can all stop talking to one another. Hell why don't we just go back to the dark ages. I know that you can't have an opinion if you don't agree with everyone else!

We didn't ban the book. As consumers we told Amazon to we won't buy from them if they don't remove it from their site. That sick POS can find some other outlet, where other pedophiles go, where he can sell his book.

This has nothing to do with banning books. It's just a private retailer choosing to remove something from their 'shelves," which is their right. End of story.
