'Pedophile's guide' pulled from Amazon.com

The controversial e-book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" has been pulled from Amazon.com, a spokesman for the online retailer confirmed Thursday.

The self-published title's appearance on Amazon.com led to a public uproar and calls for a boycott of the site. As of late Wednesday, more than 2,000 Amazon.com users had left comments on the listing, nearly all of them condemning the site for selling the title.

The e-book's author, Phillip R. Greaves II, said he published the controversial tome to address what he considers unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media.

When asked about the controversy, Amazon.com spokesman Drew Herdener would not respond.

Makes me wonder, how did anyone find this book in the first place? You'd almost think, maybe, they were looking for it...

The lesser of two evils. Pedophilia is bad. Censorship is bad. Which one is badder?

It's a disgusting and horrible topic to be sure. Very tasteless. But it does bring to light an interesting point: how far does freedom of speech protection extend? The answer is when is when it deliberately and intentionally puts the public in direct harm. Does this book do that? I don't know: if you don't buy it , it won't- but if your neighbor does; it may. I'm glad it was pulled- but I'm not sure it was fair under free speech protection.

99% of these comments are posted out of pure hatred that has nothing to do with this disgusting book, all this is is a company choosing not to sell this sick and poor excuse of a book, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with religion

There is some value in knowing how pedophiles think, just as there is some value in knowing how insatiate bigots think (e.g., The Turner Diaries) or even intending genocides think (Mein Kampf). Drawing the line between forensic value and incitement to crime is legally and morally ticklish, but on the part of a private reader, buyer, or adult researcher, the weight of the argument must be on the side of access to information. The odious of this world have access to this "information" on websites in any case, and our penitentiaries are schools of crime. No, I wouldn't put this thing where young children could get it, but reading it ourselves might better enable us to warn these same children what to be wary of. As someone who has dealt with victims of these predators... yes, I'd like to know how the predators justify themselves to themselves.
Aisha is not a legitimate part of this discussion, but though she may have been betrothed while a child, she actually married at fourteen, a not uncommon practice in the American South in even the mid-Twentieth Century. So let us drop that as irrelevant.

Such deeply emotional topics such as this draw the ire of a faceless population that use this and other forms of media to spread ideas of distrust, hate and disgust that on the surface may have no merit, but may still have meaning. Take the time to read what people post before reacting and take the time to realize that we make the decisions as to what we believe to be right and wrong, not the corporations.

If it's called common sense.....why is it so rare.

Here goes the rest of what was left of the first amendment. Censorship in the USA? Wow. Thanks a lot for making big stink CNN. Now we totally look like China! It doesn't matter what is in the book, it is how we as society are. And this is a major FAIL!

Maybe amazon should also sell books on how to be a drug dealer? Pimp? Or how to make drugs? All illegal activities in this country. We need to protect our children who can't protect ourselves. Pedophilia is a sickness and they need professional help. I am not of the mindset that they are wrongly portrayed in the media. They are sick people who need help. A how to book doesn't help anyone, especially the defenseless (children). I will never purchase from amazon again.

Get real Amazon. This is a BUSINESS DECISION and has nothing to do with censorship. If a book is going to cost you money rather than make it, DON'T SELL IT. Obviously if you allow this kind of garbage to be sold you will end up costing yourself big bucks in the long run, so just DON'T sell stuff that is garbage in the first place. We are not talking about gay rights or Hitler weenies, we are talking an ILLEGAL book to begin with, and something that will only serve to outrage your millions of customers. You might as well put a "you stink" label on the page after people log in if you are going to make lousy business decisions like this!
