Official: Petraeus warns Karzai on Afghan exit timing

In what may be one of the most significant breaches between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Obama administration, Gen. David Petraeus personally warned Afghan officials over the weekend the U.S.-Afghan partnership could be "untenable" if Karzai wants U.S. troops out of Afghanistan prematurely.

A senior coalition military official confirmed details of what Petraeus said, but asked not to be identified so he could speak more candidly.

Petraeus made the statements Sunday in a meeting with Ashraf Ghani, the Afghan official in charge of planning the efforts to handle transition from coalition to Afghan control. A planned Sunday meeting with Karzai was rescheduled, but officials insisted it was not canceled due to the tensions.

Petraeus was reacting to a Karzai interview published Sunday in The Washington Post, in which the Afghan leader spoke extensively about reducing U.S. military operations and the number of American forces in Afghanistan.

Actually, neither the U.S. nor any other Western country has any business sending troops to Afghanistan! Does anybody think that criminals have a right to invade their property and take what they have? Of course not!!! We need to regain our sense of morality and live by it!

Its so easy for us Americans to just sit in our own little lives and armchair quarterback a global initiative. Any average citizen that takes anything they read or see in the news seriously is sadly misguided and in serious need of a reality check.

First I'm glad people are psychically linked to the reality of the situation on the ground in Afghanistan! YES we get our information from trusted news sources, but have we forgotten why we are there? Wake up! Afghanistan is a mess that needs to be cleaned up. Would you rather we leave them to plot another 9\11 in peace?

And I suppose that pedophiles are not, according to you. At least the "vermin" as you call them are fighting for what's theirs whereas the American crimnal is fighting for what's yours and anything else that does not belong to him. The real "vermin" as I see it,are those who make a profit off of this this obscene war!

Laurie. It's impossible. We need a million soldiers in Afghanistan and they must have free reign to kill.
One hundred nuclear missiles would work too.
Since neither of these option are possible, it's best to leave. But first Karzai gets killed by a car bomb.

Afghanistan is (The Base) for our fight against these liars and corruptors of a faith that is beautiful & full of ideas that civilization could profit from. SAYING THAT, OUR al-qeada must start somewhere! FIRE with FIRE! Why do you think people like Danny despise our presence there so much?
