Pope calls for Pakistani Christian woman to be freed

Pope Benedict XVI called Wednesday for the release of Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy.

He also spoke out about the "difficult situation of Christians in Pakistan," who suffer "discrimination and violence," at the end of his weekly general audience Wednesday.

Bibi was sentenced to death for insulting the Muslim prophet Mohammed and for calling the Quran "fake" - a capital crime in Pakistan. She has filed an appeal and asked for bail, the chief prosecutor of Punjab province told CNN. The prosecutor, Chaudhry Muhammad Jahangir, said the appeal will be heard by the Lahore High court and a decision could be months away.

Pakistan has never executed someone convicted of blasphemy, he said, but he refused to predict the outcome of Bibi's appeal.

Ever wonder why Bin Laden is still on the loose despite of postive information that he is now hiding in Pakistan? And ever wonder what is the recent status of the case of 911 victims?

this country is our enemy, why do we give them our money? This religion will continue to get more braizen, as we just sit by and turn the other cheek, the p.c. Thing to do. I know we need to wake-up and smell the rotten fruits of labor, a war not meant to be won or lost.

Pakistan is NOT our enemy. Besides, what good will the Pope be in this case?

The Pope must declare war against Pakistani muslims, should the call will be disregarded and the persecution will push through.

Doing that will make things worse for America. Terrorists know many Americans are followers of the Pope (I mean that lightly), and will get angry at the US, thus 9-11 like attacks will become more frequent

You want blasphemy, I'll give you blasphemy. I don't believe in Allah. I don't believe in 20 virgins after you blow your brains out. I think extreme Islam sucks.

You people are so dumb. Getting angry over the obvious display of corruption will not end the evils in this world. Your leaders lie to your faces and you except it as truth. The only way to win the game is not to play. Bye 🙂 I think it's 72 virgins and if this monstrosity of a reality is allowed then I see no reason for a true soldier of God to see heaven. You may go back to shushing your puppies Caesar.

Where is the outrage from the State Dept.? I don't see any! I guess that all they're concerned is a victory that we don't need and that country's resources.

Well, I am against of her execution. But guys you have to understand that if you are living in a country, you have to follow the laws of That country. Didnt she know that if she is violating the law, she will get the punishment?
Same law apply to muslims or any one living in Pakistan, if they insult or make fun of any of the Prophets (including Moses and Jesus), they will get the same punishment. If there is no such law, then people gonna create violence.
EVERYthing should not be allowed in the name of freedom of speech. You have to respect the feeling of others. Sitting in western world and passing comments on eastern side without know the culture there, doesnt make any sense.
I hope that the lady will appeal to president of Pakistan and then get relief, but what if she insists to continue what she committed?

Let's clarify: the woman didn't choose to live in Pakistan, she was born there. She was ordered to collect water from a well at work, and told that she had to convert ti Islam because as a Christian, she would contaminate the water (Christians are untouchable as in Iran). She simply refused to convert and defended her faith, saying that that Koran is false. I suspect that a sa devout Christian, she fears more the wrath of God than whatever her enemies can do to her mortal body. A devout Muslim would also refuse to convert to Christianity and would refute Christian beliefs as false, I would imagine. WHat's more she has been deprived of freedom due to heresay (no witnesses, only the comments of the local Imam's wife) and possibly will be executed. Please explain how this can be justified. Thanks.

In this case of Islam, every thing is backward. Satan is wise guy and recognise Mohmad so Mo got mad at him. Similarly Mo was shephard. he found pig was too smart so he declared pig haram. Real story I can not print here. Read other site

Freedom of speech does not exsist in those counties. The President does not have to prove he is a christan so, leave him out of this situation. These counties have been this way for thousands of years. This is their way of life and will always be long after we R gone. Read their history U will learn alot.
