F-16s scramble as private plane violates D.C. airspace

Two F-16 fighter jets briefly took to the skies over Washington on Friday after a small passenger aircraft violated the capital's airspace restrictions, according to military officials.

A portion of the White House grounds was briefly evacuated during the incident.

The passenger plane - a Cessna 182 - was escorted by the F-16s to an airport in nearby Manassas, Virginia. The Secret Service will interview the pilot, a spokesman for the agency told CNN.

    You said he was a student piolet - dont worry– wernt the hijackers that crased the planes on 9-11 student piolets as well. Yes it is a little redeculus to belive that two fighter jets chased down a slow plane- would have been a better job for a helicopter I would think but you have to get there quickly. I think that as time progresses the "white house" and simular buildings will all be built under ground- it only makes sence!

    very simple....the pilots an idiot and our government wastes taxpayers money!!! and yes the world trade center collapse was an inside job......buildings topple...they dont fall straight down unless it was an implosion and had inside help from our government...

    Too little too late.

    Where the hell were you people after first strike on 09/11?! Quick to capture glory & a fat paycheck, not so much on the effectiveness scale. Pretty unimpressive when your only job is to secure the nation's skies.

    I love my country and the people belonging to it, but after reading some of these idiotic posts I can honestly say I'm embarrased at the level of stupidity some of you display (parrot, chase de la vega, jack). Man you guys are dumb, did you graduate high school? Have you ever read a book?       I would love to win this IPAD 2 to give to my girlfriend who cldoun't afford a new computer for her first year off to college in Chicago!
