Washington intern Chandra Levy was killed in 2001.
[Updated at 12:41 p.m] A jury on Monday found Ingmar Guandique guilty of murdering Washington intern Chandra Levy in 2001.
He was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder. He now faces a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Guandique is already serving time for attacks on two other women in the park.
Ingmar Guandique now faces a maximum sentence of life without parole.
[Posted at 11:56 a.m] The jury has reached a verdict in the case against the man charged with the 2001 killing of Washington intern Chandra Levy.
It is expected to be announced shortly.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Ingmar Guandique faces a sentence of life without parole. The jury could instead find him guilty of second-degree murder, which could mean 20 years to life.
Earlier, attorneys made their closing arguments in the case against Guandique, who denies he killed Levy, then an intern for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
"She's been waiting nine years for justice," said prosecutor Amanda Haines, holding up for the jury a poster-sized photograph of the smiling young woman. "It's been nine years, but you need to say the words 'Ingmar Guandique is guilty.'"
Levy's mother was in the spectators' gallery, and at times looked close to tears as prosecutors brought out her daughter's clothing, found at the crime scene in 2002.
Haines told the jury, "You have a roomful of corroboration" for the circumstantial case against Guandique.
That includes the fact Guandique is serving time for two other attacks on women that prosecutors say closely resemble the one that led to Levy's death, she said. Both of those attack victims testified during the trial.

Someone owes Condit an apology, I feel like other high profile cases, the prosecutors went for the high stakes win and put out a smear campaign on the Condit. They did the same with the Ramsey and Smart families, accusing the parents of killing their kids and then digging up dirt on them to show they could do it. As long as prosecutors are wanting that big case and have it closed quickly, we're going to have innocent people blamed.
Is it just a coincidence that CNN failed to mention that this guy is an illegal alien? I am sure that their position is that amnesty would have prevented this.
Faux News is calling him a Salvadoran immigrant. Make sure you share your comment with them.
Shoot that moron and let's move on...
Gary Condit is a slimeball pig who has a special date with a demon slavemaster at the end of his road
You conspiracy nuts need to cool it. Condit had nothing to do with this. This illegal Mexican had been attacking women and raping women in this same park for some time and the attacks were all similar to how he attacked Levy. Why do you continue to overlook all these facts or do you think those are all pinned on him too and that his other victims were paid off by Condit?
ahhh conspiracy nuts , enjoy your small cell in the fema camp before you hit the furnace .. you're running out of time to wake up pal
Like Seedenbetter said, "conspiracy nuts".
He's not a Mexican. El Salvadoran. Doesn't change anything. Still illegal. Thank you Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton... and special thanks to Bush II.
Who knows if he did it or not, the fact is that he is no saint. He had done other crimes with woman. We don't need guys like this walking free in our parks and streets. lock him up for good!!
Some cases deserve the death penalty. I believe that this is one od those cases,
This guy is the Poster Child for a weapons malfunction in transit.
Anyone who thinks this idiot is innocent is also a moron.
Once again the censor folks at CNN have deleted a posting of mine. This guy does not deserve a comfortable life of life in prison. Free room, food and medical . That is the biggest travesty of all in American justice. As a retired US Army veteran, this has been the biggest issue for me personally. I have had friends whom have had violent crimes commented against loved one's.
So we have here a man, possibly an illegal, found guilty and now he will be taken care of for the rest of his natural born life at Tax payer expense. What kind of justice is it for the family that lost a dear love one?
The guy should have his life taken. An eye for eye,
a retired US Army veteran from Northern California
He will not have a comfortable life in prison.
Wow, people....Can you see how our "system" of 24hr media circus, and "trying" people on TV has convinced you all that an innocent man is guilty of something?
Condit was never even brought to trial, because there was no evidence he was connected with her death. "But it must be true that he did it, I saw him all over the TV; he had an affair with her."
So what? She may have had other affairs...or a clerk at Target was infatuated with her, or she cut off a guy in a car who couldn't let it go...
I'm no fan of Condit, I don't care about him one way or another, but it's obvious all these people here blaming him just learned it on TV and won't believe anything else.
You guys might want to think about how you get, process, and verify the information about the world that you believe is true.
But if you also believe Glenn Beck, then, well...forget I said anything closely resembling critical thinking.
check the local of her death ... has the ground risen?
Have you taken your meds?
Really? Have to agree with Michelle here. What is at the root of your hatred towards women? Very sad for you.
Right on Dennis2547–I could not agree with you more!!
There is a very guilty congressman somewhere breathing a heavy sigh of relief.
No there's not. Are you another one of those who are ignoring the facts and mountain of evidence against this Mexican rapist who slipped across our borders?
Thank you Condit for gave us this scapegoat.
What a load of CRAP this is. He's no more guilty of this than Sirhan Sirhan was guilty of shooting Bobby Kennedy. What a load of CRAP this is.
