Man found guilty of murdering Chandra Levy

Washington intern Chandra Levy was killed in 2001.

[Updated at 12:41 p.m] A jury on Monday found Ingmar Guandique guilty of murdering Washington intern Chandra Levy in 2001.

He was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder. He now faces a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Guandique is already serving time for attacks on two other women in the park.

Ingmar Guandique now faces a maximum sentence of life without parole.

[Posted at 11:56 a.m] The jury has reached a verdict in the case against the man charged with the 2001 killing of Washington intern Chandra Levy.

It is expected to be announced shortly.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Ingmar Guandique faces a sentence of life without parole. The jury could instead find him guilty of second-degree murder, which could mean 20 years to life.

Earlier, attorneys made their closing arguments in the case against Guandique, who denies he killed Levy, then an intern for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

"She's been waiting nine years for justice," said prosecutor Amanda Haines, holding up for the jury a poster-sized photograph of the smiling young woman. "It's been nine years, but you need to say the words 'Ingmar Guandique is guilty.'"

Levy's mother was in the spectators' gallery, and at times looked close to tears as prosecutors brought out her daughter's clothing, found at the crime scene in 2002.

Haines told the jury, "You have a roomful of corroboration" for the circumstantial case against Guandique.

That includes the fact Guandique is serving time for two other attacks on women that prosecutors say closely resemble the one that led to Levy's death, she said. Both of those attack victims testified during the trial.

It is a CLEAR case of side track conviction- indeed this cuy has commited similar crimes in this area- however, it is a "closure" for media and public, when in reality all odds were against this guy: he is illegal immigrant, he has a history of similar crimes, he faced a jury of 9 women, 3 men, and he is poor and powerless. Condit is OBVIOUSLY the guilty one- being an adulterer does not make you a criminal, however not cooperating with authorities and declining a poligraph test is a obvious indicator of guilt due to a bigger crime than adultery. Such a shame poor people still deal with injustice eventhough they have commited crimes they get blamed for rich people's crimes. same story!!

O.J. got away with murder because he 'had' money, now he's broke and he remained incarcerated.

doubt it – phone records would have proved that. Plus her hubby probably has had many affairs and the wifey knows this.

NO donimus..there's a huge posibility of wifey had a hand on it than hubby. Yes, perhaps...hubby had many relationships and wifey knew it but you should realize that each of those women has had unique and distinct qualities and meaning to hubby it can be nothing but a mere physical attraction; it can be just for fun; it can be just to satisfy the lust of the flesh; OR it can be mixed with emotion and ultimately could turn into an affectionate affair (called love) and by a wife's instict she could determine which is which and that could have scorned her that much.

Sandra Levy is so young, beautiful and cheerful lady and anybody could easily fall for her and that will include condit.

So now, are you still in doubt?

I see these type cases on 48 Hours Mysterys and Dateline NBC every week just about. They're fascinating – all of em be about upper middle class people very sucessful, nice homes, good jobs or their own businesses but wind up doing each other in.
Like this past Saturday on 48 Hours Mysterys about this case down in Coral Gables Florida – this kid hires a hit man to kill his parents so he could get the inheritance – his father was a succesful civil attorney, but they spoiled this kid rotten, he didn't have to work or anything, they bought him cars his own apt. gave his girlfriend a job at the fathers law firm, but the son kept wanting more and more money than he would throw tantrums to get his way.
That last tantrum killed his mother the father got shot twice in the head but miraculosly survived. Very powerful case – anyways this kid got sentenced to life in jail and the hitman got 35 yrs for rolling over on him. Incredible.

No, I don't really care and yes I'm commenting. Look, this isn't the freakin' Lindburgh baby or anything. Yeah, she got whacked and it happens to lots of people every day. Not that she, or anyone else, deserved to get taken out, but theres the karma for screwing a married person. Can't imagine what he saw in her other than gullibility anyway.
