DEA outlaws chemicals used to make synthetic marijuana

The DEA has taken emergency action to outlaw chemicals used to make synthetic marijuana, meaning it will be illegal to possess or sell them in the U.S. for at least one year, until further action is taken.

The chemicals used to make "fake pot" products, also known as K2, will be studied by the Department of Health and Human Services to determine whether the chemicals and the products should be permanently controlled, the DEA said.

"Over the past year, smokable herbal blends marketed as being 'legal' and providing a marijuana-like high, have become increasingly popular, particularly among teens and young adults," the DEA said in a statement."These products consist of plant material that has been coated with research chemicals that mimic THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and are sold at a variety of retail outlets, in head shops and over the Internet.  These chemicals, however, have not been approved by the FDA for human consumption, and there is no oversight of the manufacturing process."

ummm... i would like to say i smoked weed ALL last semester of college && i came out with a 3.71 gpa. && i still smoke every night but im passing all of my classes. of course they should study this to make sure this doesn't have any negative side effects. but other than that they just need to legalize weed because its 100% natural. && saying what we can or cannot use is almost playing God. He put these plants on our Earth for a reason. && plus its safer than drinking or smoking cigs.

I can see where the DEA has thought it wise to band the legal form at least until some control is set forth. For an example i went to buy my legal subsitute and noticed they also sold mushrooms as well they started selling a legal cocaine. This i believe is ignorant and should be stopped. By legalizing pot what would be nex? Crack heads push to get cocaine legal? Or wait meth mabye we can gain some taxess off of it? I would absolutely agre that legalizing and taxing the THC chemical could help or economy and increase or revenue. But while Ol Smokey is chiefing and not working what did we really accomplish. No marijuana does not pose the same threats that even or own alchohol does to be completly honest it is the worse substance flooding the streets. I never heard of a bunch of kids stoned wrecking but have on many occasions heard about drunk driving killing our youth. The reason marijuana is a gateway drug is half the excitment your first few times is the illegal part. So now what else isnt near as bad as they say goes through their minds as somone ask if they want a line.

I don't think it should be outlawed whats wrong with it it's not weed. And people will stop buying weed and that's less money to drug dealers and gangs. If there's an action there's a reaction. think about it.

personally i do agree that their should be research matter into the compound jwh-18 an further synthetic chemicals produced shortly after. Do i believe the illegality in this matter is fair, NO. The states had the power to make these chemicals illegal depending upon their opinion in the matter. This should not have become a federal issue. Do we need emergency research, YES, because we know nothing about the cymical . But letting the dea make a federal outlaw is outrageous. we the people should have the right to put whatever in our body as we wish. just like when nobody knew about tobacco being unhealthy an does absolutely no good for the body except darken ur lungs yet its legal. And as for legalizing marijuana, it would put so much money back into revenue because of the taxes place upon marijuana. even liquor is legal after so many deaths while a drunk was driving, all because of prohibition. the people stood up for their rights an didn't just sit around. im not saying everyone should be a "pothead" or "jwh-18" user. i simply say it is our right has being American people to decide for ourselves. there are so many pills an worse drugs that are legal that damage your kidneys, overdose, an even kill people yet the government wastes time making the the much less harmful drugs illegal an makes a big deal about it. the government is turning more an more into a communist everyday. It is not up to your neighbor to fight for your rights. Its up to you an me to do what is right. fight for you personal freedom an God given American rights!!!!!!!!!

Here is the problem the DEA does not realize when it comes to these synthetic types of marijuana... It's synthetic. That means the makers of these products could constantly change the chemical makeup just a little to get around the law and they could do that an infinite amount of times. Sorry, but the DEA is going to lose this battle.

The war on drugs cannot be won and this is mainly because drugs are a natural part of life. Look at how much cats love catnip. You fight nature, you fight yourself. You fight youself and you lose.

Wouldn't it be easier to legalize the real thing? That would put a stop to K2 and free up all the government funds that are going into this battery of tests and studies. Every new incense chem that gets added to the ban will up the bill. Our tax money hard at work. – Stock up on the soon to be banned K2 while you can.

LOL, ME knows "so many people who have gotten sick from it had to be hospitalized and almost died". To date my dear ME, there have only been 500 hospitalizations from it NATION WIDE! Not a one of them was placed on the "Grave Condition" list. So I don't know who your "people" are, but I wouldn't be buying any lakeside property in Reno from them! It's people like you with these tall tales that start these panics. The worst effect has been a couple of seizures. Now, with that being said, it is my understanding that the 5 infamous chemicals that are on the chopping block have been found in a few brands, mixed with each other. Those brands are the few that the DEA is always referring to. No one chemical brand has had these adverse effects. So shame on the companies that mixed them. I'm sure they got richer than the rest with a stronger brand, however they did it by dangerously mixing chemicals together. You don't mix household chemicals, you don't mix narcotic chemicals...why would anyone think it's ok to mix synthetic cannabis chemicals? I doubt the DEA will find anything truely dangerous with any one chemical alone, although I doubt we will ever know that. We can pretty much say goodbye to the 5 on the block once they are banned. There are many more out there, how bout just using ONE in each brand from now on?! BTW, since when is a natural plant's chemical makeup, not having any medicinal purpose, a reason to make it a contolled substance? Better hurry and stock up on cabbage. My God, my God's planet, my God's plants, my God's body....leave us alone! Stop letting the warden play judge.

The only reason they want this illegal is because you cannot (at this time) fail a urine test. The people on probation, the people who are being exploited by the drug testing industry, can use it and still pass the ua's. You see the people in control of us, the citizens of the U.S.A want you to fail the test so they can make even more money off of you.

you won't have to worry about the synthetic chemicals anymore.
oh..........i forgot many people will be without jobs. such as DEA, DRUG TESTING INDUSTRIES, PRISON GUARDS, POLICE, and so many others. we don't want them to have to go on unemployment do we?
plus police will have to come up with a different way to steal money other than the ASSETT FORFEITURE LAWS
never mind , it will NEVER happen
oh and by the way........did anyone notice that MMMMMM never said he was NOT a DEA agent?
