Country singer Willie Nelson was arrested Friday on charges of marijuana possession by the U.S. Border Patrol in Sierra Blanca, Texas, CNN has confirmed.
No further details were available, and a message left for Nelson's publicist has not been returned.
war on drugs..great! Heck yes! Get heroin, crack, coke, etc off the streets I agree. BUT, the world health org, states that pot is the least dangerous and harmful drug out there. Cigarettes are more of a danger to us and they sell them to us every day with a nice "tax"! It's pot people! A god given plant / weed!
Your analogy doesn't hold. ... Smoke is smoke and can affect your lungs, which in turn can affect your breathing and finally you heart ... That is, if you don't suffocate first from Emphysema; which in many case is what happens.
There ARE many God given plants .. some are poisonous, and some affect your mind in a negative way. So, write a letter to God and see if He's laughing at you? Can you hear me LOL?
OK, this prohibition BS has officially gone too far.
If you have ever driven across Interstate 10 . There is a check point just west of Los Cruces New Mexico and another in West Texas at Sierra Blanco. All traffic drives by border patrol and there K9"s They usually wave you through but sometimes you are the lucky one to get an interview so to speak country of origin, where are you going,Etc, They check all traffic in east bound traffic in Sierra Blanco Tx and all wast bound by Los Cruces N.M. So Willie didn't try crossing the border with weed! Probably was in his Tour Bus and a BP agent said bingo Bust Willie with his sack of personal stash!
Good Luck Willie!
There are many, many other things to focus on than personal use of a plant grown by God, used by vast numbers of people and doesn't kill you and/or others like alcohol does. This is what prohibition is/was for a killer 'solution' that people die from every day!!!
I'm sorry but you're wrong on that. Other people are frequently involved one way or another. LOL !!!
...Other people are involved, typically....it's always more enjoyable to share a joint with a friend, then to just get stoned by yourself.
Frank, you're trying to make a joke right? Please, please tell me you were trying to be funny, because otherwise I have to agree with the guy who called you a moron.
What, AGAIN?
Should he get away with it? Why?
when will these evil pot smokers know that murdering people to get weed will only lead to people raping, going crazy, and all kinds of other bad things. these pot smokers are the ones that are murdering our children and dragging down our economy. i wish we would spend 500 billion more on fighting this great war on pot.
Habitual drug users cannot rationalize and tell the difference ... because they are spaced out to one degree or another.
Yeah you are Coo coo Cocopuf!
I dont use drugs so I can rationalize and tell the difference.
Name 1 person that has been killed by POT. Just 1.
Stop posting FUD
Not only does alcohol kill daily, drunk drivers, drunken stupidity, what have you, it also destroys hearts, relationships, marriages, bonds, trusts, you name it! Never have I read in the news about a person killing a family in a car accident and the driver was high on pot.
Then you've never been a police officer or paramedic (I've served in both capacities), nor have you likely ever worked in a hospital ER. Because you haven't seen or heard of it does not mean it does not exist.
Okay, so I'm sure someone high has caused and accident but how many proportionally compared to alcohol. I guarantee it's not even close. Not to mention all the side effects health wise of alcohol vs. pot. Have you ever heard of anybody overdosing on pot. Most likely not. Alcohol poisoning seems to be quite common though. It's government propaganda and we all know it.
Less than two weeks ago a driver high on pot swerved in to a group of motorcycles. The story was right here on CNN. Just because you don't read it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Actually Mia, lol, a women did do exactly that when she was high, but I think she was also drinking, crash her mini van into a car killing several family members, sadly. However, you are right compared alcohol that was a rare incident. Of course you are an expert, lol! What are the chances, destiny faith, whatever 'D
By the numbers – approx 33% of traffic accidents seen in the ER involve alcohol. Approx 33% involve pot. Some involve both. It certainly screws with judgment and safety. That's not to suggest it's worth criminalizing it to the extent it is now – but those are the facts.
Ha!
The fellow who swerved into the motorcycle? He was run off the road by another car and overcompensated once he got in the dirt. Here's a perfect example of the "Reefer Madness" crowd grasping at straws to justify the $16 Billion in wasted tax dollars.
This country has a budget deficit to overcome an chasing after pot heads is a stupid waste of those dollars. Tell you what, anti-pot crowd - you pay those taxes, and leave normal people alone.
"By the numbers – approx 33% of traffic accidents seen in the ER involve alcohol. Approx 33% involve pot."
Please quote your source.
I so totally agree!!
Good debate, all. But it isn't really relevant in the end, because NO psychoactive drug should be legal while driving. The truth is that alcohol DOES have the highest socially negative consequences and costs of any drug, and it almost certainly leads to more depression, addiction, violence, negative behavior, and crime than pot would if it was used by the same number of people.
Then apparently you haven't seen all the people dying in mexico thanks to people, probably like you, that continue to demand marijuana in america. If the hippiest state in this country votes its legalization down then maybe that is a message. I am so tired of people like you trying to make an association between pot and peace when the opposite is slapping you in the face.
@ Safegek. You sound like some small town simpleton. Statistically the overwhelming majority of DUI and DWI cases involve alcohol. To remotely compare the two is like apples and oranges. Physiologically and social opinion. We should learn from our experiences during prohibition.
@Bobby, you're statement is invalidated by the fact that Mexico's pot-related crime is a direct RESULT of marijuana prohibition in the U.S., it is not the reason(valid reason) behind prohibition nor an effect of the demand.
@saftgek
There might have been other deaths related to it, (the carcinogen levels are higher than cigarettes) but actual death from smoking too much pot is simply not possible. Death by alcoholic poisoning however can and does happen all the time.
bobby newsom, people are dying in Mexico because it's illegal and for that reason it's generating billions of dollars for the country. If it was legal, the price will probably be cut down by 90 percent and it will be regulated and taxed and that means no more killings for the illegal profit. Which happiest state, the most bankrupt one? If people can think for themselves and think critically, they would have voted YES.
@Subzero – it was voted down because it was a poorly drafted proposition full of flaws, not because we can't think critically. Knowing about the flaws I still voted yes just to set a precedent, but there were many who are in favor of legalization who voted no due to the flaws. Once a properly drafted proposition gets to the ballot it is very likely to pass.
Yeah, pot is Sooooo dangerous...! Marijuana is less addictive than caffine and safer than aspirin! Tobacco is more of a gateway drug than pot and If you vaporize the THC smoking pot is Cancer FREE! Why don't we legalize?
Alcohol causes bad driving...not pot... Get a clue.
Ummm... You guys don't think he actually DRIVING the bus, do you?
Actually Dallas being high and being high and drinking are two different things if you must know. If one is to use a marijuana joint, then consume some alcohol the effects of the alcohol are intensified. If you have never tried the two you will never know. So, in conclusion Dallas....there is a big difference in driving while high, and driving while high and having consumed alcohol. It is a pity you and others that are so uneducated in this series of discussion are allowed to set trends to be followed by the rest of the country such as the ban on marijuana use. Poor uneducated Dallas.
Give it a break saftgek, you spout off as if you are wise or something. Put it in context, can the drivel...
Your government doesn't want you to medicate yourself. They want you to get your meds from big-pharma. (except for crack. imagine if the gov. stopped crack in L.A. The city would be burned down in short order, so the crack must get through)
Best Post, ever.!
i smoked a joint once and i was immediately tempted to go rob people adn do hard drugs.
Mike, do me a favor and smoke again, don't be stupid by saying that that you wanted to rob people, the worst it could happen when you smoke weed is assaulting your fridge.... ignorant....
Some people obviously dont get jokes... lol
Me, too.
i smoked pot once and then i drove 90mph through downtown chicago running over pedestrians . at my trial i ran down the hall and jumped through a window to my death.
Mike, this is exactly what Jesus and Glen Beck told me happens on the pot!!!
That 20 tons of pot they busted on the border the other day must have been Willie's!
@ontheroadagain OMG! Are you alright?
Willie Nelson is a sad, pitiful soul. He has lived his life as a drug-saturated burn-out – a poster child for how NOT to live one's life.
This is yet another example of why drugs in our country need to be targeted in a far more aggressive manner. Make manufacture and/or distribution of any illicit substances a capital offense. Cut off the source. If one is willing to risk their very life to poison our society with their crap, then they should surrender their own life!
Let's stop enabling dopers!
for weed????????
Jeesus, what a tool! Lighten up and embrace your inner artist; and save the hatred for actual evil 😉
Perfect!
i absolutely agree with this sentiment about willie nelson 100 percent. has that guy EVER looked happy? i think his is a tragic life. i would bet anything he hasn't been truly high in years if not decades because of the sheer amount he smokes. weed is all about chasing that first high and the early highs just like gamblers chase the early win they had, alkies the same. and all these weed addicts talking about evil alcohol.......look alcohol sucks too, we don't have to legalize all rubbish just because there are a few legal poisons out there. it's the wrong direction. ban freakin alcohol too, only the ten percent of society who are alkies will remotely care. oh and the potheads will care since they will lose their punching bag.
...allow me to be a little kid for just a wee moment Raj ... You are a a%@hole.
Intelligencia of Amerika. Immigrate. Europe is empty, and waiting. Raj is enough.
Let him stay.
i can tell you never smoked. its obvous by your blatant misconceptions.
i seem to remember them trying that in the 20's. lets see if we can all remember how that turned out.
are you insane? you sound like you've been affected by a little more than some harmless pot. most rational adults or even young adults for that matter can at least balance out their desire to get high with the necessary responsibilities of everyday life. as a medicine, used in regulation, it's exceptional and satisfying. Please do not feel the need to spread your hatred any longer
Weed addicts? Are you for real? Are you Sarah Palin?
Ha ha! The commentator either IS Sarah Palin or believes everything she says. Dumb is as dumb does. The cops are just looking for a celeb to bust - makes them look important. Willie has always been honest about his partaking in weed. It hasn't hurt him any - all of you critics out there, are you as successful as he is? How many songs have you written?
Yeah lets put the 30 million casual pot smokers in jail. That will be great for this country. Then we can ban alcohol and put another 100 million in jail. What a fantastic idea you moron.
Hmm, Raj. Remember prohibition? When alcohol WAS illegal? Although alcohol is very harmful, and much more harmful than pot, prohibition didn't/doesn't work, and causes a host of other more serious problems. If marijuana was legalized, it could be taxed and regulated....and it wouldn't necessarily cause more people to run out and smoke it. Compared to other substances, it is low on the totem pole for being harmful, and actually is quite beneficial if used for medicinal purposes. We waste lots of tax dollars on keeping it criminalized.
One of the contributing forces behind the referendum to legalize pot failing in California was the crusade by pot growers themselves. By the government getting involved, the profits would go right out the window. I choose not to smoke pot for humanitarian reasons. Twenty seven thousand Mexicans have died due to the distribution of drugs, about one third of that is pot. One might argue that these people were involved in something that they knew might cost them their lives however, there were innocent victims in this carnage also. I have seen posts referring to locally grown pot but how can you be sure? Prohibition was responsible for organized crime and we still nearly 10 million alcoholics in this country. Legalize pot and let people do what they will. Primarily though, put the drug chartels out of business.
you obviously know nothing about this topic. there are no adverse health effects from cannabis. this is according to mutiple studies from harvard an berkley. research before you bestow your wisdom
I'm all for letting people do want they want, but there has been research (from Harvard researchers too) showing that weed does impact the developing brain of adolescents and can harm long-term memory functioning. It's important people make informed decisions with all the facts, not just the one side that agrees with them. Anything comes with risks, but if you are cool with them, then go for it; it should be your choice.
I hardly think the government needs to regulate something like Willie smoking weed when a substance like alcohol is legal and the drug cartels are making a killing (literally) off the drug trade.
There is another problem though... marijuana produces a much harsher smoke than tobacco. It's hotter as well. Can't be good for your lungs even though most people would smoke far less than with tobacco. Seems like I saw a study a while back that found that it was at least as dangerous ad tobacco. Personally, I think tobacco should be illegal.
Actually just to put some more facts in your statement..... Tobacco causes cancer.... Mary Jane slows the growth of cancer down...... proven fact..... ask the state of California selling it for medical use. It also has been proven to be safer then tobacco.... its a natural plant that grows in the wild rolled up in to a paper however tobacco is also a plant mixed with jet fuel and other harmful substances. Honestly I would rather mary jane be smoked then something touched by the government.
Has the term "use at own risk" slipped from the English language or something? Why do some people feel that if something has a con then they have a right to ban use of it for everyone? If these are the rules we are going to play by then by all means let's get this show on the road. All food is hear by banned because you are more likely to overdose on cabbage than you are from Marijuana. While we are at it, we might as well ban Atheists since hell (if there is such a place) would almost certainly be bad for your health. Electricity, water treatment, everything having to do with the medical industry also needs to be banned because there is a risk things could go wrong and people could die. So, lets see....I guess we can take marijuana off the list as long as you don't smoke it.
You obviously haven't don't know much about Willie Nelson and haven't seen much of him if you think he's never happy. Here's a suggestion: Go to Google and put in "Willie Nelson Smile", then go to the image results. Waylon Jennings once said that one of the favorite things he and other musicians would do in Nashville was to drop by and "listen to Willie smile". Futhermore, I've seen Willie perform a number of times and he's always been laid back and joyful on stage. His friends and fellow musicians have proclaimed the same again and again, remarking on the inner peace they've felt when hanging out with Willie Nelson.
Stop projecting your own angst and judgemental prejudices upon people you know very little about.
You've never smoked pot in your life and you're talking about "chasing that first high"? Please don't speak on a subject that you have zero experience with. Go to google and search "How many people die from alcohol poisoning each year?" then do the same for Marijuana. Over 50,000 people die a year just from drinking too much. There is not 1 death on record, anywhere, from Marijuana poisoning. Don't be ignorant – learn the facts already.
"weed is all about chasing that first high and the early highs"
Spoken like someone who hasn't the faintest idea what they're talking bout. There is no 'chasing that high' with pot.
because it works every time.
Apparently Raj, you are in dire need of a history lesson. Far more than 10% of the population use alcohol on a regular basis. In addition, you may want to read up on the effects that Prohibition had on the sale and consumption of alcohol (certainly no positivie effects!!). I believe what you are really arguing is the difference between something being illegal and immoral.
I can sure tell that you have never smoked in your life. You have know idea what you are talking about.
Saftgek and Raj,
Really??????
Yeah let's execute those who just want to relax and wind down. They may not be of any harm to others, but shame on them for making risky life decisions. I suppose we should execute anyone that goes out drinking on a friday or saturday night as well, right?
Seriously though, what people do on their own time should be of no concern to the government as long as it's not endangering innocent lives. This is an elderly country singer we're talking about. Do you honestly think he's harming anyone or that he's some drug dealer? Willie Nelson is a legendary pot smoker. He's made his mind when it comes to marijuana. If this isn't an excellent example of liberty and freedom of choice, I don't know what is.
I absolutely agree with you, Willie makes no secrets about smoking pot. It would act a pain releiver to help him keep on the road touring. At his age and it more than benefits him.
Willie: maybe time to move to Canada...you can grow at least 6 plants without going to jail...think about it. 6 grams doesn't even get you into the back seat of the police cruiser. I know these cops have a tough job, i would not want it, they simply enforce the law...maybe a little star struck or publicity seeking cops but...jeeeesh Willie Nelson, farm aid and all...just not right.
Live your own life and let people live theirs. I smoke weed and it affects exactly nobody but me. And the extent that it affects me is greatly exagerated by people like you. Sure there probally a few people that were high and drove off the road or something like that. But pot is like anything, it should be done in moderation and you shouldn't do dangerous activities while high. If i want to sit at home and get baked and play video games I am not a criminal.
Exactly ! Thank you
VERY well said !!!!
I bet you have no problem with booze though and that stuff actually kills people. I'll never understand why other people have to regulate what other people do even if it has no effect on them or anyone but the person actually engaged in the behavior. It's a personal choice and I believe this country is still nicknamed the "land of the free" for a reason. If it's harmful to somebody else than I understand restricting it but stop butting in to other people's lives.
Since when is it the government's job to tell people how to live their lives and what they can and cannot put into their own bodies?
Have you heard of prohibition? Do you realize what it did to murder rates and to crime rates?
Prohibition doesn't work for any substance and just enables criminals to make huge profits because of the illegal substance.
Around 1900 you could buy Heroin or Cocaine from the corner drugstore without a prescription and we had less people per capita addicted than today.
Nanny state ideals do not control behavior, they just make voluntary non-violent drug use a crime for no real benefit.
You ahould be so sad.
Saftgek obviously works for a private prison or he is a cop. What a narrow minded fool. Wake up! Open your eyes fool. Willie has lived a rich life filled with compassion for the little guy and justice for all. Oh and you better be paying you share of the taxes that will be needed to lock up everybody like you dream of. You probably do not even have a real job right pig!
He can't be too smart for being with drugs? Can he now? He probably thought he'd get away with if ... He probably will. Any mind altering drug isn't good for your mind anyway. Over a period of time, you become forgetful .. Probably like he did.
Put the cocoapuffs puffs down, and try to come up with an intelligent thought....were waiting.
Saftgek, Willie Nelson is a NATIONAL TREASURE, an artist's artist, and a great humanitarian. He has brought joy to millions and is universally loved by liberals as well as conservatives. He is a hero in Texas and one of the nicest celebrities on the planet. So what have you done with your life.
Well said. I fully agree.
Willie is a lot more talented, successful, and interesting then you'll ever be.
I'm with ya Brother.
as a matter of fact. i'm going to smoke a fat bowl right now......i hope i dont go crazy.....gulp!
Uh oh, you must be some terrible drug dealing commie! j/k Burn it up!
Willie Nelson? Pot? I am shocked *note the sarcasm. I say we arrest Ronald McDonald. He has harmed More.
An excellent point!
Pot and Ronald Mcdonald go hand in hand....can't have one without the other.
I bet he was hurting sooooo many people by smoking some dope....Or maybe he was just using it to relieve stress and get his mind off of a long day.-something that should be punishable by jail time. Conservative hyporcite as-sholes
and don't forget 7/11....I spent more money there after smoking than anywhere else.
The winner of "How is this news?" award has just been chosen. Willie freely admits that he smokes pot but judging from how the government treats him he must be a hardened criminal. The guy doesn't even smoke cigarettes anymore because he feels they're to harmful to his health and yet those are perfectly legal. Just follow the money trail back to booze and cigarettes to figure out why so many people have been incarcerated for smoking something that is far less harmful than either of those two.
Agree, Getting high on pot is alot less harmful than alcohol. Drunk people drive too fast, people high on pot drive a little below the speed limit. People high on pot giggle alot and get the muchies. Drunk people have rages and shoot innocent people. They blank out and don't know what they are doing. People who toke up have a higher sensitivity to what is going on around them. Alcohol is dangerously addictive. Smoking pot for relaxation isn't. Choose your poison if you will, but alcohol has alot more psychological and addictive qualities than smoking pot [responsibly]. Leave Willie alone and go after crack/cocaine addicts. At least Willie figured out that getting high on pot with a humidifier is less harmful than smoking a joint. Good for him. No wonder his voice is still wonderful.
Let's spend as many tax dollars as we possibly can on convicting and incarcerating this man for minding his own business and smoking a plant.
