Actor Leslie Nielsen, best known for his film roles in "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun" series, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia, his family said.
Nielsen died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife and friends. He was 84.
"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the charity of your choice," the family said in a statement.
Amazing life. I often wondered how someone born in the Yukon, the son of a Mountie, could end up becoming a Hollywood star while his brother became the deputy prime minister of Canada. Interesting family. You'll long be remembered, Leslie.
Wow....talk about weird....i just watched a re-run episode of Highway to Heaven where he (Leslie Nielson) died from being murdered and was given a second chance. Strange.
Now THAT is freaky.
sad
Loved LN, even more because we share the same last name. Of course it would have been nice if CNN got the spelling right.
Jane: I've heard police work is dangerous.
Frank: It is. That's why I carry a big gun.
Jane: Aren't you afraid it might go off accidentally?
Frank: I used to have that problem.
Jane: What did you do about it?
Frank: I just think about baseball.
You will be missed. RIP Leslie Nielsen.
He was really sinister in "Creepshow"! But "Police Squad" was his masterpiece!
We lost a funny & great actor today...rest in peace, Leslie Nielsen! No one will forget you.
Thank you.
Really, that's the best photo they could come up with?
WTH?
An indescribably funny man, with a genuine heart...God bless you Leslie, you are much loved!
So sad, he was so funny. I always loved the Naked Gun movies!
He was the master of dry comedy. He was so good, that as a Canadian, I didn't even care that he was a Canadian. A lovely man and a great soul.
I like him as an actor and I am not trying to sound like a jerk here but..... Why, when an old celebrity dies (84 is old) there always has to be the phrase, "They died from ________". They are old, old people die, that really needs to be the only reason. Good actor, funny man, all around nice guy.
They used to say "natural causes". Everybody is so technical now I guess they need a real reason.
I saw him a few times and spoke to him in Publix (a grocery store, for those who don't live here). Very nice man. Condolences to his wonderful family.
Very Funny Fellow !
(even tolerated working with the O.J)
Will be missed.
