Actor Leslie Nielsen, best known for his film roles in "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun" series, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia, his family said.
Nielsen died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife and friends. He was 84.
"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the charity of your choice," the family said in a statement.
From one fellow Canadian to another you were an icon & the great white north has truly lost a legend. Surley you can't be serious, yes I am serious & don't call me Shirley...lol. R.I.P. Leslie you were one of the greats.
God needs a good laugh ..i guess! Rip L.Nielsen
I'm so sorry to hear this. Leslie, may you rest in peace. You were always one of my favorite actors, EVER!
Sad... He always looked great and was sharp. RIP!
Let us not forget the classic "Forbidden Planet". His comedies will never be forgotten as they were and are classics as well.
thanks for the laughs give them hell up there leslie
R.I.P.
Enough with the Shirley jokes! You can call me Shirley, if you want. It's my name. RIP Mr N.
Looks like he picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...
(RIP Leslie Nielsen...you will be missed...)
That wasn't him, but yeah, I guess.
That was actually Lloyd Bridges!
Yes, he was funny as heck in those fairly recent films... but please see the 1956 film Forbidden Planet which Mr. Nelson was terrific in as Commander J. J. Adams. That movie was pre-Star Trek and influenced the series in a big way.
So sorry about the familys loss he was a very funny actor i liked him alot. he will be sadly missed and best again best wishes to your family.
Anyone know of OJ's whereabouts? He's probably responsible. . .
Now that I think about it, this guy has been making me laugh all my life. And he will continue to do so. I'm renting Naked Gun tonight.
Mr. Neilsen could easily taken on serious, romantic, leading man roles, as he always had the looks and 'gravitas'. Instead he chose to take himself less seriously, and entertain us with his dry, deadpan humor. I hope his art reflected his life...that he enjoyed his life and laughed long and often, and didn't take his troubles too seriously. Thank you for the laughs you gave to me and many others, time and time again. You will be remembered.
Some other plane of existence just got one of the funniest comedians. Will miss u...R.I.P
