Actor Leslie Nielsen, best known for his film roles in "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun" series, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia, his family said.
Nielsen died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife and friends. He was 84.
"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the charity of your choice," the family said in a statement.
Leslie Nielsen was truly, truly a great and talented actor! His films from the early part of his career show how exceptional he was. Then he showed his versatility with his incredible humor later in life. I'm so sad this day. He will be tremendously missed! Now go make the angels laugh Leslie!
Thanks for all the naked guns
Just saddens me... the funniest guy just got to Heaven... just think of that the next time you hear thunder! You have clearance, Clarence.

I must agree with another poster – this news made me "Awwww noooooo" out loud. Rest in Peace, Mr. Nielsen, you are one of the reasons I've always been proud to be Canadian.
Shirley, you can't be serious...
I met Leslie in 1970 in Montreal.
Not a pretentious bone in his body.
CNNs terrible editing strikes again. Way to dishonor a great man's memory.
What an amazing actor! He gave me many hours of chuckles, may he rest in peace...
RIP Lucas Hollingsworth (Golden Girls' last episode)
Shirley it ain't true!!
He never won Oscars or anything like that, but EVERYONE knew who he was. To his family: Look at all this love for Leslie. Many comments...many lives. Leslie had a knack for the type of humor that never hurt anyone. We need more humor like his nowadays. He's up in Heaven right now kicking it with WC Fields and the Marx Brothers. God better be ready to laugh.
Don't call me Shirley.
ESPN Classic has been showing reruns of Celebrity Bowling from the early 1970's. Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges used to compete against each other on that show. Little did we know how much they would make us laugh one decade later. RIP Frank.
loved him in every movie that I ever saw him in. he will be missed by his family, friends, and fans.
