Video: Parents break into car to stop attempted carjacking

Dramatic surveillance video shows why one couple have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Aaron and Melanie Richman, both 22, stopped at a Kansas City, Missouri, gas station early Wednesday after driving from Colorado en route to Eldon, Missouri, according to CNN affiliate KCTV.

After gassing up, the couple parked their vehicle away from the pumps and walked over to talk to the drivers of their moving van.

In a matter of seconds, a man noticing the unattended vehicle made a beeline for the Richmans’ car.

The man jumped inside and began to drive off - with the Richmans’ 6-month-old inside.

The couple responded immediately.

Video shows Melanie Richman holding onto the side of the car, and in the process breaking the back passenger window. She finally falls to the ground after being dragged across the parking lot.

Aaron Richman manages to jump inside the vehicle and begins “giving the crook the business, kicking him in the head repeatedly, trying to save his child,” according to KCTV reporter Jonathan Carter.

The beat-down causes the offender to crash the car, causing no harm to the baby, and flee. The couple suffered minor injuries, according to KHSB.

Police are still looking for the man who ran off.

I wouldn't have let the guy escape. He'd be pummeled into a pile of mush. Dental records couldn't identify him.

Thanks to God? Did you read the story? The dad beat the guys head in, not God!? God let the guy hijack the car in the first place. God an accomplice to kidnapping and carjacking, if anything. Thanks to the Dad and Mom.. Are you illiterate?

If there was a God, one would think She/He/It wouldn't have allowed the risk to even come to the kid.

Thanks be to the parents, who fought for their kid.

Man, one way to get people worked up is to mention 'God'. If you don't believe, why do you even care. STFU!

Good save to keep robber from taking off with baby.
Next time don't leave baby in car or unattende, keep car closer to store, and make sure you lock it. !eware of holiday car jackings and robberies, be aware of your surrounding, and travel and shop with compant to minimiza victimization. Good fast thinking to save tour childn bravo!

i live in south kasacity. it's a real pooop-hole. the only jobs here are selling weed and meth. a few sell coke. anyways theres no real jobs here.. all the stores have closed down. the only good thing is you can speed and run lights caus ethe cops are so busy that they dont have time for traffic violations..

the 107th and blue ridge area is so dangerous at night you have to drive fast so you dont get shot at or car jacked.

my friend trent crane that worked of 87th and bluerigde got tortured and killed for his ford ranger back in the 90's.

all i can say is maybe if there was some jobs, maybe people wouldnt resort to selling drugs and breaking into houses and stuff.

the one thing i did hate about living there was getting my car broken into constantly and having to sleep with a gun and window cracked open so i could hear them out side.

well. i have three guns lol.. i've never shot anyone but did have to fire it into the ground to scare them of when they were breaking into my car. they broke into my house when my gran-ma was home.. funny thing was she thought is was me and started screaming for me to knock of all the racket.. that scared them to leave out the window. i've been robbed a few times delivering pizza as had all the drivers.

one stupid guy actually ordered pizza and when steve got there the guy open the door and pointed a gun at him and took the pizza and winf and mountain dew and steve came back to the store called it in.. the police went back to the guys appartment and they were there eating the pizza and counting the money.

another time when i worked at the mc donalds at 87th & blueridge there was a robber that waited across the street at the gas station and when someone went into pay for the gas, he stole there car and came in our mcdonalds and robbed it..we nick named him the ninja cause he came in the store and ran and jumped on the front counter and started shouting big bills.. he jumped real good... course both robberies nobody ever got caught or convicted.

pretty much the whole south side of kcmo sucks.. especially from 75th upto

pretty much most of the older people are stuck in there homes cause they cant afford to leave becasue the home prices are so low becuase of crime.

you can buy a home in ruscan hights for like 20k.. but you better get bars on the windows and make sure you have a big dog and solid doors. or yeah and a crummy car that has starter kill.

i moved away from that area about 5 years ago but still have a few friends that live there... i dont know if anything could be done to fix the area but maybe if you got some jobs it would help. hows it go idle time is the devils tool? the best you can hope for over there is to get a job at a fastfood place unless you have a car to get over to kansas(20 min drive).

Glad the baby is alright. However, 1st mistake- leaving the keys in the car running, 2nd mistake-leaving the child in a running car, unattended to go talk to your family,(can you say child endangerment?)
I know, they didnt want to wake the child to take him out of the car. Well this what happens. For those of you who leave your car running to run into the store. Its cheaper to turn the car off and take your keys. You should have insurance and maybe this wouldnt happen. If my car gets stolen, then it gets stolen, that is what insurance is for

what type of car is it? i know some people.... ah never mind.

and yes never leave the car runnning with the keys in it. the baby wont freeze that quick if you have to run in and pay..

part of the problem is that all the pumps there are pre-pay only..
