Bosnian rape victims call Angelina Jolie 'ignorant'

Angelina Jolie may be the goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, but she’s getting no goodwill from an organization of Bosnian rape victims over her new movie.

The yet-to-be-titled film, Jolie’s directorial debut, is “a love story between a Muslim woman and a Serb man set against the background of Bosnia's 1992-1995 inter-ethnic war,” Agence-France Presse reported.

Local Bosnian media, however, said the movie would include the rape of a Bosnian woman by a Serb and a romance between the two, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times in October.

On Monday, a victims group from the war sent a letter to the UNHCR saying Jolie has an “ignorant attitude towards victims” for not meeting with them and explaining what the film is about, according to the AFP report. Women Victims of War says it has documented 25,000 rapes from the conflict.

Jolie has said the film does not contain any rape-love scenario and offered to meet with representatives from the group, Women Victims of War, in Hungary where she is filming most of the movie.

The group has rejected that offer.

"Crimes were committed here, in Bosnia, and we want to meet her here," Bakira Hasecic, the group’s leader, told AFP. "We wanted to talk woman to woman. She should have asked after the victims, come (to Bosnia) before the shooting to hear our voice."

The letter to the UNHCR says Jolie is not living up to the expectations of an ambassador for the organization, a role she has held since 2001.

“We feel that she did not act like a real UNHCR ambassador and we believe that she has no more credibility to remain the ambassador," the letter concludes, according to the AFP report.

The movie was to have been shot in Bosnia but most of the filming was moved to Hungary after the reports of the rape-love scenario surfaced, according to media reports.

I agree that Jollie is pretty ignorant and very insensitive on this matter. But this film will loose money big time, if that's any consolation. This subject matter is not a date movie ,a chic flick or action/adventure. It already has a ton of bad publicity, nobody wants to see this.

Side 1; Angelina MAY have some experience in victims advocacy groups, but on an international level, she is only a FACE for the UN as many other prominent Faces have been in the past. The money is always needed and welcomed, by those in need, but should be applied where it is needed the most.
Side 2; Angelina and Brad have supported many worthwhile organizations and associations in the past, and will probably do so in the future; they are advancing the true meaning of charity in many places that would not otherwise receive anything.
Side 3; If diplomacy is suffering then SOMEONE sitting comfortably behind their desk in the UN should mediate to ensure BOTH side have the benefit of understanding and negotiate a reasonable agreement between the two parties, to the best interest of all concerned. A victim of war does not see YOUR side, the see the nightmares, awake and asleep. If they ask to talk, THEN TALK!!!! It goes a long way to resolving psychological distress. Ask any Shrink that charges $200 and hour in the USA.
My experience? 2 years in Vietnam, 7 months of that in Cambodia; 3 years in Germany during the Terrorist rampage as an MP investigator; 2 years in Saudi Arabia during the 1st Gulf War, 6 months in Kuwait helping to rebuild their airports and digging out bodies from the debris; 10 years living in the Middle East, Egypt, KSA, Turkey, and Iraq seeing the poverty and devastation victims must live through long after the "war" is over. It's easy to say "what have YOU done?" , and pass it off as an arrogant, ignorant bystander would; now I ask all of you: What do you NEED to do to help those in need in your own country, starving peoples of Africa, abused women and children, WHITE SLAVERY, or any other atrocity still going on in this world? $1.00 in church, or the charity box may make you feel better, but it only pays for the thought, not the function.
    Think about it!

Was it really expected Jolie, who has no respect towards another woman's home, would have respect for much else. Angelina Jolie is a fake selfish person and a bad actress (she plays the same roll in every movie). She is in this movie to make money or sleep with someone's husband again! I can't wait till her looks completely go, that way I won't have to see her face!

The following comment attached is so extreme and offensive that I feel obligated to respond to it. Obama, whether you agree with his strategy or not, try to draft legislation to allow those underprivileged and the vulnerable in the USA to be given life-saving medical care. On teh contrary, The Nazi's killed those underprivileged and vulnerable people who cannot look after themselves. If this commentor (alias "karek40" ) cannot distinguish the act of offering life-saving medical care from the act of giving lethal injection to kill and injure those who simply suffer from physical or mental handicap, not by their own choice, karek40 must have an IQ level just to qualify as a perfect subject for the Nazi 'euthanasia' T4 programme".

Count youself lucky not having been born in the WWII era Karek40 or you will be crying when a needle sticks in your vains involuntarily.

National Socialist German Workers' Party (NAZI), the key word is socialist, perhaps this is what obama care has in store for us as a solution to the rising medical costs. One never knows.
