McCain opposes change to gays policy
Now is not the time to repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays serving in the armed forces, Sen. John McCain said at a hearing Thursday.
"At this time, we should be inherently cautious about making any changes that would affect our military, and what changes we do make should be the product of careful and deliberate consideration," the Arizona Republican said.
His position is not that the law should never be changed, he said, but that "it may be premature to make such a change at this time and in this manner."

You far right people and far left people need to wake up and join the rest of the country. We just help vote out some of the most weak kneed, corrupt bunch of morons in history. We are supposed to be a smarter world, some folks are gay!! You need to worry about that terrorist slitting your throat or blowing your family up, not old prejudices.
It's ok. Soon the old people who only vote down party lines will pass away, and those of us who actually read facts will be the old people voting. I hope there will be more independent candidates with an eventual 3rd party primary system that emerges, so the majority independent voter can have a say for once. Most people don't like politicians for a reason. McCain will of course ignore the fact that many gay men died in Vietnam along with other wars, but still take the far right stance despite polls showing most military don't really care. I have family who are ex military and they don't care where someone puts their sausage as long as they're left alone.

We in Arizona don't believe that Senator McCain and Senator Kyl represent the people of Arizona. They have been in the Senate too long and are out of touch with the people and to know what they want. They both should retire. McCain has seven houses and still he has no compassion for those who don't have anything through no fault of their own.

Actually if you botherd to read the article you would of read the part where it said now was not the time..but did not say never...I think never is to soon..people want to be gay..well good for them..do they need to be out about it while serving our country...no..

If McCain thinks the policy is wrong, abolish it now and get on with the task of dealing with the consequences. I firmly believe that the US military will be stronger in the long run by embracing all qualified applicants and using the people available who have the skills we need. The military will adjust just fine, as it did when Truman integrated the military.
If McCain think gays do not belong in the military, then advocate going back to the days when gays had to live in fear of exposure every day and were subject to blackmail by all kinds of individuals. No one should seriously think that back in those days there weren't gays in the military.
What I cannot stand is the waffling. "Don't Ask, Don't tell" is the most idiotic policy ever conceived and is symptomatic of an inability to handle societal changes in an efficient and effective manner.
And just WHY is now *not the time* and in what *manner* should this arcane law be changed? Just friggen DO it and move on. THIS was the other choice for President....so when you're hatin' on Obama, just remember, the other choice was JUST AS BAD.
