Cubs great Ron Santo dies

Ron Santo, who played third base for the Chicago Cubs for 15 years and later joined their broadcast team, died of complications of bladder cancer Thursday night, the Chicago Tribune reported. He was 70.

Santo suffered from juvenile diabetes, which he kept secret even from his teammates. He was loved in Chicago as a great player on a bad team in the 1960s and '70s. He played his final season for the crosstown White Sox in 1974. The Cubs retired the nine-time All-Star's No. 10 after he retired.

All i can say is RON you will be severely missed by millions of people. Not only do you belong in the haa of fame It's a travesty that your not .Not only being a great babeball player and a even better human being, you will be missed. Playing in an era when you played for the love of the game is long gone. What i think should happen is to have 2 hall of fames. One when you played for the fun of it and one in the steriod , and performace enhancing era, and cry babys that hold out because 100 million is not enough. Sports in general these days are in a sorry state. And for all you cub bashers out ther who want there name in print, its not funny and grow up. Even when i was 7 years old and worshipped the cubs i still had a great deal of respect for people like Johnny Bench, Lou Brock. Bob Gibson etc. You know if owners weren't paying these ridicolous salaries maybe things would change, but at this point it would be a miracle.I LOVE TO SEE THE YANKEES lose and George spend 300 million on free agents.Baseball has changed forever and not for the good.

    @ poor cub fans
You should show more respect for a person who just lost his life due to cancer. Ron Santo was a great ballplayer, but more importantly, a great human being. I'm assuming you're parents didn't teach you manners when you were young, because I hope when they pass there aren't any internet trolls like yourself yapping at the mouth. It's real easy to sit behind a keyboard and type b.s. that you wouldn't say to someone in person. I'd LOVE to meet you in person to show you some respect, because trust me, it would take no more than 30 seconds...

With all due respect to all of the idiots that have wrote negative things about RON SANTO ITS ONE THING THAT YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTELY CLUESS PERSON WHO SHOULD GROW UP, BUT THEN YOU GOT YOUR STUPID REMARK IN PRINT SO YOUR PROBABLY LOVING IT, I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU PEOPLE. I WAS HOPING RON WOULD BE IN THE HALL BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY I'M NOT THAT OLD BUT I LONG FOR THE OLD DAYS WHEN MEN PLAYED BALL FOR THE ENJOYMENT AND NOT HOLDING OUT BECAUSE TAKING A SALARY OF 100 MILLION IS BENEATH YOU. IT'S PRETTY DEPRESSING. WE MISS YOU RON AND MAYBE THEY PLAY BALL IN HEAVEN.
