Gotta Watch: Maher's musings, dump truck chase, train track save

Glenn Beck like L. Ron Hubbard - Bill Maher’s appearance on Sunday’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” is getting a lot of attention online today. The host of “Real Time with Bill Maher” was asked how much he thinks the Tea Party is about religion.  Maher focused on FOX News’ Glenn Beck, saying, “I think he’s doing what some people before him have done, like L. Ron Hubbard, who is a novelist, and decided, ‘You know what? It’s a much easier gig to be a religious leader.’ ”

And Obama more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight - Maher also looked back on President Obama’s first two years, surprised that he’s more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight.

Teen dump truck heist -You may be asking yourself, who would want to steal a dump truck? The answer: one reckless teenager.  This harrowing police video shows the young driver as he rear-ends the police car and speeds away. Officials say his wild ride went on for more than fifty miles.

Close-call train rescue – This heart-stopping video from Spain shows a man as he topples over into subway tracks. Lucky for him, an off-duty police officer jumps in to save him just as a train arrives.

Maher is a classic millionaire limousine liberal. He has no sense of where America's political center is, and dismisses most people, be they on the right or the left, as idiots. The man is so clearly devoid of any sense of what the average American believes in. You know what, Mr. Maher, if you want to pay more taxes, the IRS accepts donations.

I'm sure he pays far more taxes than you, even w/ Bush's millionaire tax give away in place.

He DOES say that he will pay more if that is what the country needs to be successful. If you don't watch his show you wouldn't know his opinions. I watch all different and alternative types of news. I don't always agree with the Liberals (Maher, Cobert, Olbermann, etc..) but they make much more intelligent arguements. All I ever hear from the right (Fox, etc) is that we need to protect the wealthy class & give big business tax breaks to maintain the our country's econmony. However, I never hear an intelligent breakdown of how they would handle it. Like every Tea Party candidate that came on Bill's show – THEY HAVE NO PLAN FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS! IT IS ALL ABOUT PROTECTING THEIR JOBS AND WAY OF LIFE!!

Bill Maher is a perfect polarizing example of how each side, the far-left & far-right, do not represent any of us. BIll and each side have an intolerance for a difference of opinion and resort to name calling when it comes to debating the other side. So what if someone chooses to believe in God, Allah or whatever. HIs elitist (I'm right and you're an idiot) mentality is so far from truly representing anything close to the general portrait of America.

well have you heard what Maher has said about religion and islam in particular, his stances on profiling, his positions on the size of govt, he is far more libertarian and look those up, the stances may surprise you, it is more 'conservative' than what many on the far right are willing to say

Regarding his intellectual rant... I am independent from red and blue, I like the gray area. That being said. Intellectualls do not gather in flocks, we converse with a few collegues and agree upon said ideals. When people flock together they cease to beome singular and intelligent, they become sheep.

That being said, I will not tolerate a leader that tells women what to do with their bodies, or tells me that burning coal is clean because we "freeze it and bury it next to the nuclear waste" That stuff will seep up from the ground and kill off every organism on this planet.

for the love of god i hope someone smart reads this. PRO CHOICE!!! CLEAN COAL IS A LIE, CARBON CREDITS ARE EVIL

The reason why Bill Maher is popular with certain people is because he speaks to their selfish desires to answer to no one. Unfortunately they are wrong.

Noah took one of every animal, guess who breeded with their offspring? If they were the only two, that means incest.

The bible is full of holes like this, when will people wake up and realize that all religion is made by man.

Wow, you are a complete idiot. Incest in the animal kingdom is NOT the same as incest among humans. Are you really this stupid? THIS is your argument against the most widely published and distributed book in the World? You are a dumb one thats for sure.

    • Gregory

Steve – you are the dumb one, incest is the same problem in the animal world (of whcih we are a part), the genetics would cause defects and problems with the offspring. People just didn't know this back then so they published stuff that would later be proven bogus. Most animals would probably smell or in other ways detect the close relation and simply would not breed at all, so they would all have died. Or, maybe Noah has 7 of every animal like another part of the bible says, but then we're talking a really big boat.

Lay down the pipe, quit loitering in coffee shops and become a contributor instead of another future welfare state recipient with an "opinion" of how the rest of us should work harder to support you. Quit theorizing and begin contributing. Yeah, unfortunately it's not as cool working and being responsible. Ireuel, do you think Beck, Hannity, and O'Reilly are no one sided? The fact is both sides tell people what they want to hear. It's naive to think that anyone who profits on fear and paranoia will be completely credible. I do agree with Maher in that religion should play no role in politics as the U.S. is a diverse country with many people who practice different religions or no religion at all.

Bill Maher spoke the truth. Glenn Beck is a cult leader. Research cults and you'll see many similarities. For example, one is called mystical manipulation. Glenn creates his own reality, and manipulates the truth; but because of his cult-like personality, people fall for it. Also, those of us not prone to having our minds controlled can listen to someone and like some things he says and disagree with others. I would guess most Glenn Beck followers believe every word out of his mouth.

You can guess all you want. I can guess that you believe every words out of Maher's mouth or whoever you happen to look up to or idolize. Not that either of us would necessarily be at all close to the truth. Everyone always loves to label/perceive followers of an ideology or leader they disagree with as mindless, unthinking "sheep". It's such a transparent attempt to brush off opposing views and those who hold them. Have a little respect for the fact that people can think for themselves (and then I'll give you the same). People like you demonize people like Beck so much because he is passionate about something you tend to disagree with. Assumedly religious or political views. People do the same all the time to leaders they hate. But going around calling people Nazis, communists, cultists, etc doesn't do any good, and doesn't really help your argument at all. Hell, I attended a talk by Ann Coulter, and there was a small gathering of liberals outside yelling and banging on the venue doors calling her things like woman Hitler, megalomaniac, etc etc. It was downright comical and embarrassing.

Don't kill the world for us because your god says its okay to do so what about the rest of the world?

Actually there is such a thing as clean coal, scrubbers to remove hydrogen sulfide from emissions. And CO2 sequestration. Which isn't a myth. Its currently in use in North Dakota by a company called Dakota Gasification Company. 70% of their CO2 is piped to oil field wells to increase the wells production and sequester the CO2. Sequestration is an old technology that is proven. This facility has been operating since 1984.

Just as absolutely certain as scientists were about the need for carbon and phosphorus for life, they now know they were wrong, and animal life can adapt and live without the things that the scientists were SURE they needed. Maher is CERTAIN that global warming is coming/here because the scientists who are CERTAIN that it is happening. This requires some kind of faith. It may be shown in the future that all the assumptions and certainties about global warming are wrong. What will Maher say then? Same with people who are religious or spiritual. It requires belief which may never be shaken. There is essentially no difference between L. Ron Howard, Jim Jones, all the Popes, Martin Luther, Mohammed, Buddha, vegetarians, global alarmists, environmentalists. All are prophets and require a following of believers that fall in with them.

You're reasoning is a bit off here Mr. Harry Lime.

To believe in something based on present scientific data means someone is forming an opinion based on the available KNOWN information (scientific data).

Im sure you can dicher the difference between this and something based purely on any given religious text. This doesnt mean you're an a$$ hole or anything, but you should consider these two opposing processes for forming an opinion 🙂
