Gotta Watch: Maher's musings, dump truck chase, train track save

Glenn Beck like L. Ron Hubbard - Bill Maher’s appearance on Sunday’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” is getting a lot of attention online today. The host of “Real Time with Bill Maher” was asked how much he thinks the Tea Party is about religion.  Maher focused on FOX News’ Glenn Beck, saying, “I think he’s doing what some people before him have done, like L. Ron Hubbard, who is a novelist, and decided, ‘You know what? It’s a much easier gig to be a religious leader.’ ”

And Obama more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight - Maher also looked back on President Obama’s first two years, surprised that he’s more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight.

Teen dump truck heist -You may be asking yourself, who would want to steal a dump truck? The answer: one reckless teenager.  This harrowing police video shows the young driver as he rear-ends the police car and speeds away. Officials say his wild ride went on for more than fifty miles.

Close-call train rescue – This heart-stopping video from Spain shows a man as he topples over into subway tracks. Lucky for him, an off-duty police officer jumps in to save him just as a train arrives.

Beck fans call Maher an idiot. Maher fans call Beck an idiot. Is it any wonder the condition our country is in, if this is the highest level of intellect we display when discussing a difference of opinion? If we so easily dismiss the opposing viewpoint, aren't we likely to miss either good ideas or serious threats? It puts all of us at risk for so many to blindly follow any leader, regardless of their political proclivities.

I like your comment. People don't want to see both sides of the issues and they don't respect points of views that are different than theirs. I like to watch Fox News and I like to listen to NPR programs.

You clods who actually base your life on a bunch of morons trying to make a name for themselves really need to get a clue! Television is for entertainment purposes only. That is it! Bill Maher, Glen Beck, Sarah Palin, Barney, and Bob the Builder are all out to make a buck off of YOUR stupidity. How's it feel to be a sheep?

Maher has captured the Zeitgeist of the atheists, but in a nasty way. No need for that Bill. Reason, for those who listen to you will prevail. Faith, for those who don't listen, will prevail for the others.

It seems a little misleading for CNN to post him as strictly being a comedian during these snippits. People that don't watch his show, Real Time, are going to assume that he IS merely saying these things for attention – and not trying to inform the public by relating WITH HUMOR. He's more of a political analyst that sees the irony and humor in all of wishy-wash crap that comes out of politicians. I would have to agree that should run for Pres in 2014 but that would never happen... Love your work Bill Maher – Keep it real

    • He is a comedian!

That is how he makes his money! He is popular only because of people like you that actually think he has any say in politics or life in general. He IS a comedian. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's understandable that Mr.Maher questions anyone's beliefs when it comes to faith. He doesn't believe in anything, so it's normal that he finds it funny, amusing, or even fake when someones takes these issues seriously. It surely must be sad to go through life being him.

Well, maybe because he doesnt have imaginary friends. Why would you go through believing in something you know that cant prove.

"It surely must be sad to go through life being him."

Something tells me that is not the case. He seems to be in a pretty good state of mind whenever I have seen him and he is a hell of a lot more successful than you will ever be. And he did it without any belief in Sky Jesus.

    • People like him are deluded

He still goes home at night wondering what his purpose is in life. He still wants to know why we grow old and die. Evolution has not taught him why we are vastly different from animals in that we appreciate art, music, and contemplating the future. Those who think like him are the same why. I already know the answer to all of these questions. I'm not worried about if mankind will ever bring peace to the world. And just the same as when I can admire a beautiful painting and praise the painter behind it, I admire a beautiful sunset painted across the sky and praise the Great Painter.

Maher has a condenscending arrogance borne of the idea that he is so much smarter that those studid conservatives. This is an affliction he shares with other left leaning commentators the worst of whom is Rachel Madow. She even has a smirk when she talks.

He is arrogant. At the end of the day, we all drop our pants and take dumps. He is no different than anyone else. And, when he dies, he will turn to dust just the same as a mangy mutt on the streets.

At least Beck does some RESEARCH and provides some FACTS about what is going on in our world.
Maher seems to be only OPINION . A flaming one at that.

Maher actually does considerable research and stays very well informed. Leading me to believe that you've never really watched him or listened to a word he says. On the other hand, I HAVE watched and listened to Beck, and come away with the opinion that his facts are mostly manufactured.

I enjoy Bill, I enjoy all intelligent people, but really enjoy Bill. He was brought up Catholic and yet he still saw through the BS. I dislike when people, Republicans, attack Bill by stating things like "Just because you don't believe in fairy tales, doesn't mean you are smarter than us." lol Umm, yes it does.

Republicans hate education, which is why they try to group being educated with being an elitists. The dumber you are, the more likely you vote Republican. It does take a lack of intelligence and/or education to vote against your own interests and the Republicans count on that fact.

I can somewhat understand someone believing in a God but NOT someone who believes in Religion. Do you really think that a God came down and wrote an error filled book without hardly any useful substance? Come on. P.S. Christianity, is basically a rip-off of previous made up stories, mostly from the Egypitan Religion. Islam is a rip-off of Judeo Christian. But it is sad that crazy religious peple refuse to study the history of their own religion and how it might be a fraud.

You should have stopped at the end of the first paragraph. You sound less convincing and more like a blowhard with each subsequent paragraph.

Hahah! You are right, he does sound like a blowhard. The Bible has been proven time and time again to not only be historically accurate but scientifically ( The Earth is MILLIONS OF YEARS OLD , not thousands like some wackjob religious people think) and many archaeological findings have substantiated claims made in the Bible as well.

So please save your baseless and tactless comments because you obviously have not a clue what you are talking about.

... the best part of the comments on this article is people jumping to the defense of someone whom thinks the commentors are lesser educated bafoons that need people like him to get them through life with some semblence of intelligence, unable to cope by themselves. What sort of person lets someone talk them down, and then turn arounds and comes to their defense later?

Beck does research? That's funny. Is it like when he researched George Washington's speech and told his gullible sheep that he held it in his hand? He wouldn't even tell the truth when he got caught.

Beck will tell you not believe anything he says, for you to research it yourself and form your own opinion. How many other people tell you that? They all expect you to believe everything they say

So does telling people to do research give him the option of not telling him the truth whenever he feels like it?

    • Subicsailor

Notarichboy... My guess is that Maher doesn't tell people to do their own research because he expects them to do that, and to challenge everything he says. Challenging ideas and putting them to the test is what intelligent people do. Beck, on the other hand, has to actually remind his audience to do that.

No you dolt, it's a good thing to say. And if maher encouraged his audience to do it you'd be all over it as a supporting point for your hero. You can characterize Beck's following all you want, doesn't make the least of it true. I've watch him criticially. He is a bit alarmist with some things he says, but he also makes some very good points, if you ever cared to watch him (and without just grunting and rolling your eyes at everything).
And likewise, I've watched some Maher. He's a joke half the time, and not in the funny way. He's crude, offensive and immature. It's no wonder he's a comedian and not a politician.

Bill Maher is so correct. Conservatives live in a fantasy world, stuck somewhere in 40-50s and don’t see today's reality.

    • The fossil record proves evolution WRONG

Since Darwin's day, the number of fossils that have been collected has grown tremendously, so we now have a pretty accurate picture. The gradual morphing of one type of creature to another that evolution predicts is nowhere to be found. There should have been millions of transitional creatures if evolution was true. In the "tree of life" that evolutionists have dreamed up, gaps in the fossil record are especially huge between single-cell creatures, complex invertebrates (such as snails, jellyfish, trilobites, clams, and sponges), and what evolutionists claim were the first vertebrates, fish. In fact, there are no fossil ancestors at all for complex invertebrates or fish. That alone is fatal to the theory of evolution. The fossil record shows that evolution never happened.
