Gotta Watch: Maher's musings, dump truck chase, train track save

Glenn Beck like L. Ron Hubbard - Bill Maher’s appearance on Sunday’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” is getting a lot of attention online today. The host of “Real Time with Bill Maher” was asked how much he thinks the Tea Party is about religion.  Maher focused on FOX News’ Glenn Beck, saying, “I think he’s doing what some people before him have done, like L. Ron Hubbard, who is a novelist, and decided, ‘You know what? It’s a much easier gig to be a religious leader.’ ”

And Obama more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight - Maher also looked back on President Obama’s first two years, surprised that he’s more Wayne Brady than Suge Knight.

Teen dump truck heist -You may be asking yourself, who would want to steal a dump truck? The answer: one reckless teenager.  This harrowing police video shows the young driver as he rear-ends the police car and speeds away. Officials say his wild ride went on for more than fifty miles.

Close-call train rescue – This heart-stopping video from Spain shows a man as he topples over into subway tracks. Lucky for him, an off-duty police officer jumps in to save him just as a train arrives.

Wow–whether you like or hate Glenn Beck almost takes second place to the fact that he quite literally slapped the Word of God in the face. I take offense to the fact that he had no reverence God and His Word.

This country is all about disagreement–with each other, with our government, with whomever we wish to disagree. And until we learn to do it with civility and respect and good will, we are not worthy of the sacrifice of the thousands who have died to secure this right.Thoughtful disagreement will yield answers and solutions. Mindless cheerleading will get us nowhere.

Bill Maher LOL he went from primetime to HBO, to getting left wingnuts to go on his show. The guy doesn't make sense half of the time when he does these show segments on CNN.

Bill O'Reilly has been on his show multiple times.

      So you must be right.

Mayhaps jettisoning the right wing-nuts on his old show (ie Christine O'Donnell) made his show more intelligent and allowed him to upgrade from free TV to pay TV. The old show was not in prime time btw. As far as making sense, I find no difficulty at all with understanding what he is trying to say. Perhaps the tripe they peddle on Fox and other right wing media outlets is more intellectually rudimentary and digestible to your tastes.

Republican just say no is a fact and not silly. Its pathetic actually. Their goal from the start was to make President Obama a one term president. Deny any legislation through. Record number of fillabusters. No compromises. The Democrats problem was that they need more of a Democrat majority. Because unlike
Republicans the do not vote lock step with the party. If they did more of the Presidents agenda would have passed. Now the president does do something that is hurting himself. He keeps compromising to get republicans to say yes. Everytime he get another no.

You can't sit back and think that what Maher said is untrue. As someone who works in a gun shop and routinely deals with hard core republicans, the vast majority of them are racist. You know how many times I've heard Obama referred to as a "nig ger"? Too many to even fathom counting. As an American, not a democrat or republican, I'm not blinded and naive in believing that racism doesn't run deep in that party. I'm sure there is some in the democrats, as all humans harbor some prejudice of one form or another, but it's not as blatant as the republicans.

Bill Maher is one of the few people left in politcal debating that's not completely one sided, like the majority of the Republicans/Tea Baggers. Sure, he's a Dem and supports a liberal state of mind, but he's not blind to the issues as a whole and encourages actual intelligent debating on key issues, unlike most Rep/TB. Yes he rips them apart (as he should) but he also calls out the Democrats, time and again. The Dems had everything in their favor and wussed out.

I voted for Obama and yes, I'm a bit disappointed in him. But the pyramids weren't built overnight. This man was handed one of the most unenviable terms in US history. So everyone that wants to kick him out after a single term are saying one thing; Bush was a better president.

He must have been considering we gave that idiot two terms. But in reality, it was just fear. The "War on Terror" was going on and everyone was scared. So we elected him again. The Black Jesus didn't fix all our problems in two years, lets kick him out. Fear.

Americans are proving that they are nothing but sheep looking to follow instead of lead. They're looking for the ones saying all the right things and latching on hoping for a quick fix to their problems. Instead of actually having to think for themselves and make actual cognitive decisions/votes based on it.

Bill Maher – what a bore he has become. I loved his program twenty plus years ago...Politiocally Incorrect. He was funny, clever and he projected the image of a sane human being. Currently he sounds sad, bitter and angry. I wonder Billl if you have ever pondered why it seems to cause you so much pain to realize that there are some people who believe in God and some who practice a religion. Have you heard of tolerance, respect at all?.You are certainly on CNN pretty often, at I hope large sums of money ...remember that greed has and is bringing down our great Nation, along with intolerence and lack of information. You and Glen Beck may have the same agent. Take a long walk or listen to some lovely music. Happy Chanukah and Happy Christmas.

To those of you calling Bill Maher elitist and an idiot - are you saying that the Tea Party is composed of mostly thoughtful, concerned and patriotic individuals? C-mon, all they care about is how much money they have in their pockects. They don't care about the future of this country – just the future of their own bank accounts. If they cared so much about excessive spending – where were they when George Bush squandered the budget surplus inherited from Clinton? Bush spent gargantuan sums on one baseless war (Iraq) and one one stupidly planned one (Afganistan.) I'm not saying we shouldn't have invaded Afghanistan – it's just that it was done in such a way that created worse problems, and it's not over yet! Almost 10 friggin years. It's misplaced anger at Obama. Name one program that Obama has developed that caused crazy spending!! The biggest bailouts were voted in when Bush was still prez. Remember McCain suspendinghis campaign in Fall of 2008? The new health care system isn't going to start for another few years, and has been designed to pay for itself within a few years.

"To those of you calling Bill Maher elitist and an idiot – are you saying that the Tea Party is composed of mostly thoughtful, concerned and patriotic individuals?"

Odd question. Critique of Maher has nothing to do with praising the Tea Party. Critique or praise of Maher doesn't say anything about the tea Party one way or the other.

"where were they when George Bush..."
Well, the Tea Party only became nationally organized around the start of Obama's term, so...they weren't really around to do the level of critique you were looking for. And while you make some valid points, be careful about blaming any of Obama's issues on Bush. He is fallible, and his own choice of actions is debatable. Liberals need to let Bush go at some point.

Liberals need to let Bush go whenever they have fixed all the messes Bush left behind – a plummeting stock market, an economy on the verge of another Great Depression, U.S. prestige dropping around the world, a doubled national debt, two unfinished wars, paying for an optional war that Bush and the Republicans spearheaded for false reasons against a nation that had nothing to do with 911, etc.

After watching Mr. Beck's rally, I made an off-hand comment that he would leave Fox to become a preacher. He sounds like a preacher already. Why not make the big bucks and get the tax exemption, too?

In case you did not know Glenn Beck's religion is LDS. LDS members don't choose to preach or hold callings, they recieve callings by there bishop by necessity. They don't get paid for serving in there church. So for a statement of this sort to actually take place it would require Glenn Beck to drop everything he believes and join a different church, Therefore Bill has nothing to back up his claim and is just looking for attention. He has a tendency to spat off at the mouth with no FACTS. Only Bill would sell his soul for Money!! Is there maybe a chance that what Glenn Beck does is sincere?

The only thing embarassing is you, Mr. Maher. Your opinions and lack of respect for anyone else do more damage than anything that "yokels" or Glenn Beck say. You are a pernicious fool whose sarcastic comments is destroying the very things that make our country great.
