Memorials for slain soccer fan turn violent in Russia

Rioting broke out in Russia's two largest cities Saturday as soccer fans protested the death of a man in ethnically charged clashes earlier in the week.

Yegor Sviridov, 28, was killed during a huge brawl in northern Moscow between football fans and migrants from the North Caucasus region. A suspect is in custody, RIA Novosti reported.

Thousands of fans - commonly called "football hooligans" in the Russian media - turned out for a memorial Saturday at Moscow's Red Square. Violence and fires soon erupted again, and hundreds of riot police used shields, truncheons and gas to try to disperse the crowd. Video on the Russia 24 network showed helmeted police clubbing protesters and dragging them away.

Similar clashes broke out in St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti reported. Nationalists and members of the outlawed National Bolshevik Party were reportedly involved, but media said most of those present are "ordinary fans," according to the news agency.

A police spokesperson denied that any serious incidents had occurred in St. Petersburg.

Why does any one care anyway? Soccer sucks. What a bunch of nonsense. Cry babies running around in circles then falling over in agony when ever they get touched.

  5. Russian- Ready to take your questions

It's all very serious stuff, and I hope you guys in the West take it seriously.
This is not about football or such trifles.
The underlining reason for the conflict is that f**ng Putin has made friends with Chechen gangsters from N.Caucasus (read Wikileaks about Kadyrov), pumping there enormous sums of money, and in reward allowing them to terrorize ethnic Russians and other law-abiding groups of population. THIS IS HIS MAIN RESOURCE OF POWER.
The police are corrupt and/or receive strong instructions to be "gentle" to the gangs from Caucasus. Basically it's slow genocide.
You might say "why should we care", but think, do you really want that Russia plunges into chaos and falls into hands of mad extremists?

Thanks for reading this, have a good one.

Which supporters were involved? CSKA? Spartak? Lokomotiv? Dynamo?

So they weren't fighting each other but against the Police?
Why would Putin align himself with gangs from Caucasus against ethnic Russians?

    • answering: + BLOOD BATH NOW EXPECTED!!!!

It is not about football anymore, on Manezhnaya all fans were together against the police, but also lots of ordinary people including young girls who are tired of being constantly insecure b/o ethnic criminality.

But now the new development is more serious.
Today there were rumours there are many Caucasus people arriving to Moscow, many are from mafias with "proper" skills and firearms. They fear they lose control of the city, where they were beginning to install rule of crime gangs. Now the fights can start any day basically, and it could easily be 1000s and 1000s of deaths !!!!
GO AND POST THIS SOMEWHERE ON THE BLOGS, that's damn serious.

As to Putin, he's a criminal who robbed the country, so he aligned himself with those gangs to protect his power. He cannot rely on ethnic Russians anymore, people hate him.

The World Cup going to Russia is good despite what this news event shows. I spent months there as an American and what I saw would bring tourists from around the world to enjoy. The Cup will help Russia build up, be more visible to the world and help overall. For one thing it will rid all these ignorant views of Russia and Russians. They have problems just like American, China or anywhere else. I'm still buying my ticket to attend.

"Russia Is a Riddle Wrapped in a Mystery inside an Enigma" – Winston Churchill . Oct 1939

Guess what? This description is still valid. I think it comes from the internal confusion of a typical Russian person.

Look, the Russians look European, think like Asians, govern like Mexicans, study American cilture and traditions (at the same time hating the Americans). And on top of that still dream of a rightful place as a world superpower.

Who are you people? If you want respect, be yourself and respect others.

That was not about sport or immigrants attack., people who were there are not all fans. They are just citizens who try to ask their government why
they supporting etnic Kaucasus criminal gangs. Yes in every crowd you can meet
and nationalists and communists and martian, but they are only small part of this riot. It was riot against government corruption.
Our media are liars and you spreed the lie around the world.

Russia could riot all day and night for the next decade or more over corruption. It's deeply ingrained and an automatic in their culture.

Completed two separate adoptions in Russia, traveled there several times, and experienced their system first hand. I can personally attest that corruption is everywhere. It's how everything was done and was mind blowing. I also agree that Russia has monumental problems. I'm so glad my awesome kids are out of there. 700,000+ orphans remain in Russia's orphanages.

Well, then why Russian Slavic Nazis kill all the time people from other countries, who are students from Asian and African countries and came to Moscow or Russia to study? I know a lot of examples when students from overseas were severely beaten by Russian Slavic gangs, some even killed. What about that little girl from Tajikistan that was killed by a group of Russian Slavic teenagers? And I have never seen any protests of Russian ethnic minorities on Manezh square. Russian Slavic are supermajority ehtnic group in Russia and you claim you cannot control your police and government, how pathetic then your ethnic group should be.

      >how pathetic then your ethnic group should be.

      Disorganized, disoriented, poor, terrorized
Lots of those who try to change the situation end up in prison or murdered.
      But we'll see, we'll see...
Pity we don't get any help from anywhere abroad, but never expected it anyway.
