Court condemns Irish ban on abortion

The European Court of Human Rights condemned Ireland's laws on abortion Thursday, ruling the country violated the human rights of a woman forced to go abroad to end her pregnancy.

It did not, however, recommend a change to Irish law, which prohibits abortion in all cases.

The woman, a Lithuanian national who was not named, was in remission from a rare form of cancer and unaware she was pregnant when she had a series of check-ups not advised during pregnancy, the court said.

They didn't stop her from having an abortion, they only made her go elsewhere to do it. They didn't want the blood on their hands.

Well said, Hands. Lets just condemn the Irish and nevermind the human rights of the human that was murdered.

This falls under the category of the mother's life being at risk. She has a rare form of cancer. If her remission ended while carrying a baby then she would have to have chemotherapy. Then the baby would have to be aborted and if it's late term then that is worse. Best to abort as soon as she discovered her pregnancy.
The soul doesn't enter the baby until the brain is developed to a state of being able to hold it.

Jim I absolutely agree. Where there is clear, life threatening issues to the mother it is sometimes necessary to terminate a pregnancy. Im having difficulty, however, with your last sentence. How can we know at what instant of development the human body is able to 'hold' its given soul?

It is the womans CHOICE NOT the governments. If her life was in danger, she has every right to have an abortion.holy rollers, get off your high horses. If you feel it's wrong, you don't have to have one now do you?

And where's the baby's choice in all this? What if her baby didn't want to be aborted, but wanted to live. Heck, he might've even gone on to be the one who discovered the cure to her cancer, but we'll never know now will we?

Sure stop abortion. Then we'll have millions of teenage mothers who can't provide for their children who will probably not receive proper education.
