South Korea military drills canceled due to weather

Scheduled South Korean military drills likely will not be held over the weekend due to an adverse weather forecast, the country's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The drills will only be held if the weather improves in the areas surrounding Yeonpyeong Island, the military said.

The military had said Thursday that the exercises would take place in the seas southwest of the island between December 18 and 21.

I see. Kim Jong Il is going to wait for the sunshine when there's a REAL engagement, so South Korea has a fair chance.

Break out the umbrellas, chaps. Pip-pip!

About these two dangerous days in December:

Living in Soul Korea, I am happy that cooler heads have prevailed and that all sides have backed away from their dangerous threats of last week. These two days in December could have been some of the most dangerous two days for the Korean people in several decades. There is not strategic advantage for the South or the North to have a war this month.

The South would lose a large number of citizens (hundreds of thousands) in Seoul in the first few hours of a war with the North, and the North would over the days that followed be subject to a massive military defeat as the South used its superior military to over-run the North's outdated tanks, aircraft, and air defenses.

No one asks these questions: How many hours can the North fight before they run out of fuel and key supplies? How many hours can the North survive the massive missile assaults, the radar blackout, the radio blackout, and the massive and sudden loss of all infrastructure and field communications? Then what happens to North Korea when the US carrier forces start their massive assaults?

After the North's defeat, the South does not have the ability to rebuild Seoul or North Korea. The South I believe would face a massive post war bankruptcy and a round of starvation as their "victory" prize.

The North has nothing to gain. The South has nothing to gain.

Ultimately in my view this is why they both back down and do what most humans do: talk about the weather.

I live in Seoul Korea. There is no bad weather today.
