1 dead, 15 injured in Russian copter crash

A crew commander was killed and 15 passengers injured when a helicopter crashed on the Russian Arctic island of Yamal, state media reported Sunday.

Three crew commanders were aboard the aircraft in addition to the passengers, according to RIA-Novosti.

The helicopter crashed while approaching a gas field that is under development by Gazprom, the Russian energy giant, state media said.

More or less reading about a Russian air disaster/week, can we assume that Tuploev is now building helicopters?

I rode in helicopters daily for too long and looking back is a strange feeling. They are an incredible piece of machinery.it just takes ablink of an eye to be in a very serious dituation and the person driving has no time to review hos options.some of the pilots I rode with were unbelievably great!ut like life there were others that you wondered whotied their shoes for them in the morning.all accidents are sad but the deceased may have prevented more fatalities. May he RIP.

When I read news like this, images of cold-war era fallout shelters appear in my mind. Many of US were so afraid of the USSR, we began building shelters in our basements and under our back yards. These would cost anywhere from 250 to 500 dollars each, and we built thousands upon thousands of them. That was a LOT of money back then. Massive civil defense programs added to the spending binge lasting nearly two decades. Every single day, year after year, the radio announcer and later on the TV talking head's would remind US of the coming attack Sound familiar? What say we all go out and each of US buy a buttload of duct-tape in case the "terrorists" disguise themselves as illegal aliens and...do whatever they want with US. And be thankful that today's terror threat doesn't involve building fallout shelters. We simply can't afford them, but i'm sure we could all scrounge-up enough nickles to buy a buttload of duct-tape!!! (he-he)...anyone seen my coffee cup?

Me too. I wonder how he's doing? Oh, that's right. He's dead, so he isn't doing anything.

Nope. Dirt nap for Walter. Was great being forced to watch the evening news with my dad though. Learned to like the guy.

Seriously, a lot of deaths being reported today. May that poor Russian rest now, and condolences to his family. Speedy recovery to the rest of the crew!
