'God is' billboard replaces controversial Lincoln Tunnel atheist sign

An atheist billboard on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel that declared Christmas a "myth" has been replaced by a pro-Christian billboard.

The old billboard, put up in late November by the American Atheists organization, said "You know it's a myth. This season, celebrate reason."

The sign stirred controversy among Christian organizations, prompting the Catholic League to erect its own pro-Christmas billboard on the New York side of the tunnel that read, "You Know It's Real: This Season Celebrate Jesus."

The new sign, which was posted by the Manhattan-based Times Square Church, reads "God is," and includes a word cloud of religious themes.

Christians pummeled the Indians & forced down non-believers' thrrroat with "in god we trust," "so help me god," "under god," etc.

There are more of us. So, believing in "it" has its privileges - subjugating others! 🙂

At least we hope he's not real. Otherwise, most all of US are in trouble.

And yet, anytime scientists try to have God show himself in controlled settings, he never shows up. You'd think an omnipotent deity would be able to make time for a few minutes.

Yeah, but it's nice to be able to stuff down non-believers' thrrroat with "in god we trust," "so help me god," "under god," etc.

You can't do that with science, can you - e.g. in science we trust, etc.?

Believing in "it" has its privileges - subjugating others! Ha, ha, ha... 🙂

Since we can't prove that god doesn't exist, s/he/it must exist; since we can't prove that god doesn't beat off; s/he/it must! 🙂

You guys are a bunch of pragmatic cynics. Believing in God or having faith gives you Hope, Happiness, Satisfaction and a sense of Family and Community. Why live your lives as prix thinking someone is always trying to F...... You over and raining on other people's parade. Your childhoods must have sucked.
    Merry Christmas 🙂

Note the hateful tone in popoyo's comment... Anyone who does not believe in his god he treats with scorn and derision. Ah, the love of Jesus!

Gumby, think harder. Popoyo is just being direct and frankly, very accurate, but unfortunately its not something you can understand unless you really live it. I hope you get that chance.
      Merry Christmas.

If you don't believe He is there for you, loves, and gave Himself for you, I'm very sorry for you, especially when we are celebrating His Son's birth. I will pray for you.

If you want to win someone over to your point of view, calling them pigs is probably not the way to do it. It simply emphasizes this one idea: Jesus, if he was alive today, would never associate himself with Christians.

" The natural laws of the universe are so precise that we have no difficulty building a spaceship to fly to the moon and can time the flight with the preciision of a fraction of a second. These laws must have been set by somebody."- Quoted from Werher von Braun(R.I.P.) then head of NASA's strategic planning division and one of history's best know physisits.

Oh please...get over yourself. Believe what you want. If this guy said that the laws of phisics are proof that there is no god you'd be all over him.

Phil, that is correct, and things in this universe our Lord created are so finely tuned to make our kind of life possible, there's no way it "just happened".

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but I choose to believe in God. I just don't know what God is. Like to think I will find out someday. As an adult I was stalked (among other things) by our priest, so religion has been completely ruined for me. But I still believe in God.

Many people rightly reject the idea of a God who created everything. Why? Because the idea that the earth was created in seven days is absurd. But this is what the Priest's and the preachers say. While the bible is silent about how long it took God to create the earth. The genesis account describes how long it took him to prepare the already created earth for human habitation. (cont)

Reading Genesis is very revealing. The Earth is the centre of the universe. It took god 5 days to finalise earth, but one day to create the billions of galaxies with trillions of stars.
