8 inmates injured in Arizona prison melee

Eight men were hospitalized Thursday after a melee among about 180 inmates in the lunchroom of an Arizona prison, authorities said.

The incident occurred at the Red Rock Correctional Facility in Eloy, Arizona, said senior patrol Officer Michael Andonie of the Eloy Police Department.

The prison is a private facility in central Arizona, owned by Corrections Corporation of America, Andonie said

Most of the hospitalized inmates suffered head injuries, Andonie said

The police spokesman said he did not know what caused the fight.

even in prison there is a code of conduct.when something like that happens its usually a set up to get to specific people they normally dont have access to.maybe they were getting at a pedophile or rapist.if so ,so what they get what they deserve.

The only people who deserve to be protected from violence are the innocent victims of these subhuman wastes.

@scab, It is the law that should dole out the punishment, not other wasted skin. Some of the other inmates get their jollies from violence. Pedaphiles should be executed.

I strongly believe that the three "C's", of Corrections, care, custody and control; should not be left to a non-govermental pseudo law enforcement agency. The professionalism and authority of a "real" Correction Officer cannot be duplicated by rent a cops.

You are right. Private corporations making a profit on the bondage of men and women are nothing but legalized slave farms. These slave farms are staffed by untrained, uneducated, minimum wage workers who often have a chip on their shoulder or who get off on abusing cons. Incarceration is the business of government and should not be co-opted by the corporate slave masters.

Prisons are in a sad state. An inmate goes to prison for commiting crimes and continues the same behavior that got him there. And the prison system cannot protect those in prison from becomming victims of other inmates.

That's why they call it "prison", genius. It's not a country club, rehab, or a frat house.

@scab, they are not being punished if they are allowed the same behavior that got them there. Did you even read my post? Idiot.

Fact-The vast majority of people in prison are there not for crimes but for being poor. If you are poor and use some drugs you get 5 years. If you are in a middle class neighborhood you are never caught because there are not police on every street corner. If your a stupid black 16 year old and rob a store-you're looking at probably 15. If your a stupid white 16yr. old from a good neighborhood-juvenile court, probation and a stern lecture from the judge. Our system punishes poverty, not crime. Fact!

Save the bread and water for the homeless. Dig a hole for the prisoners to poop in, then bury them in it.

They ARE being punished. Better they keep that behavior BEHIND bars, rather than in society. Let them kill each other. What do you care? Bleeding heart libtard.

Most people get out. After years of abuse, no education, no rehabilitation and no hope they are let out. Then, if you want to get a job-good luck. Most places won't hire ex-cons. (Which is itself a crime and form of legalized racial discrimination.) Most cons want to go straight. But if you want a life, a girlfriend, have kids to support the system puts you in a position where you are almost certain to re-offend. That's what "The Man", corporate America wants. The Man wants to keep poor folk-mostly but not always minority folk-in their place. And that is in the Prison-Industrial complex, our 21st century version of slavery.

Many INNOCENT people are in prison. Our criminal "justice" system is corrupt. A brother will be told that if he doesnt plead guilty he will get 99 years, if he does he will get 5 and out in 2. What would you do? Da*n right you'd plead. And cops lie all the time and "help" witnesses with their eyewitness testimony so they finger an innocent man. Our system is a disgrace. And people wanting to dig a hole and bury convicts should go back to the middle ages where they belong

I vote for digging a hole and burying them. If you can't do the time...don't do the crime.

    1) I really don't think private business should be used to perform what is genuinely a government function; prisons and corrections should NEVER have been outsourced. And unless I read incorrectly in the past, the argument they are more efficient or cost effective was utterly false.

    2) scab your one of those really heartless folks aren't you, the kind that throws momma under the bus to save money on the seniors home.

    3) jaillawyer, while you are likely right on some merits, you play the race card just a little bit too much. I happen to be white and live in a rather rough area – and it is quite frankly the blacks causing ALL of it. Sorry, no racism, I can see it right from my balcony. Does a 16 yr old white kid get a better break than a 16 yr old black kid? probably. Am I going to lose any sleep over it? Not really.

It is surprising to me that someone with your pea sized brain is not in prison. Think (if you can) about the moronic statements you have posted on this site.
Not all people who are in prison did some horrible act. Most are in for minor drug crime through mandatory sentencing laws. Most made a mistake and when they get out they want to start over and improve on their lives. Your stupid statements are typical of someone with a low IQ who shouldn't be allowed a computer

I think there ought to be more tent cities like in phoenix he has a low return rate i visited prisons in tn most of my youand find from my experiences most violent offenders and thieves will return they have every thing they need and theres no rehabillitation most of the ppl who get it are snitches or pedophiles and ppl who hurt old ppl those two classes desrve it being molested as a kid i know theyll do it over and over most the time they are segregated so when caught its on i think they all should be done like in the bahamas or thailand and this country will be alot safer place to live

  10. Common sense

I'm sure in our nations history an innocent may have been sent to prison, but logic and a fraction of an once of common sense would say that is the exception to the rule. That is in no way a reason to make prisons the paradise they have become. WE NEED REFORM NOW. They shold be charged for each day they serve and have all comforts removed. It should be a feared place that no one should want to return to.

Right..jail has become not such a bad place to be...make it a terrible place to be and there will be less repeat offenders. And since when did jail become a place of rehab? It's there for punishment.

This is the kind of sorry prisons you get when private contractors take over prisons. One the guards are underpaid; prison guarding is a real dirty job. Two the guards are not real peace officers & their training is lousy.

Most likely the precipitating factor that started the fight will not be uncovered. It could have simply been a distraction.

I don't want to think about the other possibilities, but with that many people involved it aounds like an organized strike. Gang related, perhaps.

Hopefully I can post just once. I'm still working on my coffee and you never really can tell from your BB, unless you refresh.
