Gotta Watch: Wanton destruction, Hef to tie knot, 'Ooo La La La'

The year in implosions - Here at CNN, we get a glut of videos in surprising categories. All this week on "Gotta Watch," we will be unveiling short compilations of some of our favorites, including the demolition of the stadium that the Dallas Cowboys once called home (pictured above). As one of Newton’s laws explains, what goes up, must come down. Here’s a look at some of the best examples of 2010:

Another engagement for the ultimate playboy - Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, 84, is tying the knot for the third time. Hefner popped the question to 24-year-old Playmate Crystal Harris. Hefner posted news of his engagement on Twitter, calling it his happiest Christmas weekend in memory.

"Ooo La La La" creator remembered - R&B singer and songwriter Teena Marie was found dead this weekend in her California home. She was 54. The four-time Grammy-nominated performer recorded a number of hits for Motown and later Sony/Epic during her diverse three-decade career. Along with “Lovergirl" and “Square Biz,"she also had hits like "Ooo La La La," famously sampled on The Fugees' "Fu-Gee-La," and "Fire and Desire," her duet with friend and mentor Rick James. Check out the latter here, and go ahead and have a look at and listen to more of Teena Marie's melodies: "Square Biz" and "Ooo La La La."

Here's a thought experiment for all you truthers out there. Find yourself an explosives demolition contractor. Tell him you want to demolish a high rise. Tell him he can only plant his explosives on a ten-story section of the upper floors. Tell him he has to get the charges planted and the wiring done without ANYBODY noticing his crew or explosives and equipment being brought into the building. Tell him you are then going to ram a jetliner into the area of the building that he has just set charges in and then let it burn for about 90 minutes. THEN tell him he can set off his charges, but there can be no audible booms or other normal hallmarks of explosive controlled demolition. AND he has to do this knowing the building will be fully occupied. Do you people realize just how dumb your "conspiracy theory" is? Not to mention how completely inhuman? I mean, I have a pretty low view of the Bush administration, but come on now. Do you really think that there are NO people out there who want to come after us? Are you really that delusional? This was obviously a terrorist attack, an OUTSIDE job. Your whack-a-do conspiracy is nothing more than a vehicle to make yourselves feel superior to others. You have no special knowledge of any secrets. Seek professional psychiatric help, please.

There was a group of people who had the keys to the WTC complex
just so you know the whole story.

Dave-O, you know nothing. Lots of people had keys to the complex. There were hundreds of tenants, security, maintenance, etc. Duh.

@Tomcat: Inside job, no way, you know that, right? It's odd how the Twin Towers went straight down; guess due to the very strong steel beams that the weight was too heavy so could only go down. Ridicules these guys saying inside job.

I guess the biggest problem with the truth is that the majority still cling to thier misguided sense of national pride. Its just too painful for most to accept the fact that our government would slaughter its own over oil. Or that we arent the 'good guys' anymore. I understand, though. It hurts me too. I love America and would defend her with my life. She just isn't what she use to be. Being raised in the 60s I witnessed the beginning of corruption in America. Even my father, raised in the 30s and 40s told me the path we were beginning to take. I thought he was crazy at the time, of course. But so far he was spot on. For those who refuse to see, I pity you. Because its you who will have the hardest time when truth cant be ignored any longer.

@ Big Joe Yes I know it was not an inside job. I like to stir things up a little. lol. I was a FireFighter that lost a friend in FDNY. I dont want people to forget that day. I also ate the hell outta some tamales. Not really on my diet but, once a year....I dont eat beef though lol

  10. Stop the conspiracy C#ap!

Brandonious – I could not agree more and I lost family in the event! There is no way this was a conspiracy and everyone who believes it could be is just watching too much TV and reading too many comic books! A controlled demolition takes months to plan and prepare for and for these buildings, would take hundreds of people to coordinate. Do people honestly think that these people would work on demolishing a high rise and killing over 2,500 innocent people for what? Money? Be real. The buildings fell due to the heat, steel melting and pancaking effect. The surrounding buildings fell from debree shooting into the buildings at tremendous velocity and fires that ran all day unchecked. People who insist on conspiracy theories should really just get a job or a another hobby. I am so sick and tired of hearing this nonsense. I actually heard that people believe that the goverment paid actors to pretend to be the people on the hijacked jets who called and spoke to their families moments before being murdered! Insulting! Perhaps my all time favorite is people who believe the plane that hit the pentagon was a missle and not a plane at all. 9:15am in the morning and the plane flew 150 feet over a jammed highway during rush-hour. Only about 1,000 people witnessed the plane but because the video wasn't clear enough from the parking lot, people say it was a missle. If the video of the two planes hitting the WTC wasn't available, people would say the same about those attacks. That they were missles and not planes.

Bottom line people – Our goverment (no goverment for that matter) is not that smart to pull something like this off. Too many people would need to be involved in a mass murder and be expected not to talk about it. Really? Come on!!!

I see that you base your opinion on a belief that it would take hundreds of people months to pull off an "inside job" and demolish three buildings. To you, that seems more unreal than the actual video showing three steel structures collapsing symmetrically and with no apparent resistance. To me it is obvously impossible for these buildings to have fallen due to fire. Maybe you have never actually watched the videos–especially of WTC7, never hit by a plane. Or perhaps you never took physics in college. Did you know that the big hole in the side of WTC7, located at the time over 400 feet from the closest Twin Tower, was caused by a steel beam blown out the side of one of the towers? Can you guess at how much energy would be required to blow a steel beam weighing in the tons that far? The laws of physics state that to work horizontally and move that much mass requires a huge horizontal force. A fire would never cause sufficient force, but explosives could. Additional laws of physics and chemistry indicate that burning office materials, and even jet fuel, does not reach temperatures high enough to melt steel. And once some part of a building perchance did get that hot, it would give in that single location–not symmetrically. Only a controlled demolition could cause a symmetric fall of an entire building.

But I digress. It would take only a few trained men to rig an entire building to drop in a controlled demolition. Companies that do this work are universally family owned and operated, and contain few employees. A large building of about 12 stories was rigged and dropped in less than three weeks in Montgomery, Alabama back in the 60s or 70s. A single family of experts and a couple of assistants did that job. So your assumption is entirely wrong. Just because you do not want to believe that our government would do such a thing should not cloud your mind entirely to the ends that you are not willing to at least consider alternatives.

Some individuals do not know the difference between morale (just having fun), or deep intellectual contributions for everyone to benefit from. And when one makes defamatory statements about another in an ambiguous way, it is'nt long before your simply "not" forgiven, and someone "will" be on your ass. I suggest some read the comment policy... I did! 🙂

michaelfury, just another self-brainwashed tool who ignores all the evidence and makes up stuff to fit their pre-conceived notions. Lets talk about building 7, shall we? Of course it is the focal point for the crazies because it didn't have graphic video footage of large jetliners plunging into it. That means the crazies have room to fill in the blanks with their silly little theories. Building 7 was hit by falling debris from the Twin Towers. Large amounts of the front of the building were simply carved out by the debris, and the building caught fire. Building 7 was NOT a traditional steel-frame building. It had an unusual design that was compromised by the debris moreso than a regular steel-framed building would have been (check the blueprints if you don't believe me). It was also on fire on many floors in the lower levels for several hours. As the fires burned the surviving steel columns in the lower floors weakened to the point that they simply could not hold up the weight of the 30 plus floors above, and they gave way. The building came down. There were no booms. No puffs of dust to indicate explosive demolition. Not one tiny piece of demolition material was found in the debris from ANY of the buildings that collapsed that day. Nor did any of the steel columns recovered show any signs of being cut with linear shape-charges. As with the Twins, a large crew of people would have had to set the building up for demolition without being noticed, and the charges and wiring and det cord would have had to survive being on fire for SEVERAL HOURS...and when finally detonated they would have to have been silent. Sorry, but that simply isn't possible. You guys need to find something else to do.

Nothing will ever top the 9-11 demolition job for clinical precision and expert placement of explosive charges.
