NFL fines Brett Favre $50,000

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $50,000 by the National Football League for failing to cooperate with an investigation into whether he sent sexually explicit messages to women, the league said Wednesday.

However, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, based on the evidence available, "could not conclude that Favre violated league policies relating to workplace conduct," the league said.

Favre was alleged to have sent inappropriate messages to Jenn Sterger, a female employee of the New York Jets while he was on the Jets roster in 2008.

"The forensic analysis could not establish that Favre sent the objectionable photographs to Sterger," the league's statement said.

It also said Sterger had not engaged in any inappropriate activity.

50,000 is chump change for him. This was to make the NFL brass look good to the public. Goodell is a loser who should be fired. But they have failed again. They are stupid and think we are also.

It does not matter if you are a sports star or a tv/movie star you get treated differently when it comes to getting punished.

Brett is a dirtbag. His wife is battling breast cancer and he is sending photos of his ding-dong to a chick with a fake rack? He is mentally twisted.

Or maybe he was caught up into something was more than what he thought it was. Maybe she's a "Player" and Brett got played by a 20-something hot Maxim model who knew how to flaunt her goods. 2 sides to every story...

Wouldn't it just be as easy as going to AT&T or whoever is his cell provider to see if he actually sent it? Also, check the number who sent the picture to her?

Seems like a long and drawn out "investigation".

The NFL is not a government agency, and thus, has no subpoena powers over AT&T.

I would guess his failure to comply would be his failure to provide his cell phone records. If he ain't being tried in court, just pay the fine and get out of dodge.

To the NFL – it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS – and if you have not been able to estblishFavre sent the messages according to the article – it's not only NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS but you are completely out-of-line (no football pun intended) to fine him!!

He admitted to sending the text messages and the voice mails. Just not the photos, and would not provide access to his text records. There's enough there to know he was doing something wrong though, hence the fine.

He should just retire while he's still considered one of the great players and not dragged into a scandal. Wonder why he picked on her...

So he didn't violate any league rules or employment laws, but because he didn't make their job easy he has to pay the NFL $50,000?

Yet another reason why I stopped watching the NFL.

Farve has the record for the only QB in the NFL to record his own sack.

with all the rash of fines and what not, goodell wanted to keep with his hard stance of conduct policy. but more over its a slap to the face and it says you deserve this and more. your married and shouldn't have gotten caught up like this and we are not going to help ruin your marriage over this tramp. but seriously, once jenn figured out farve just wanted to bang her and not leave deanna, thats when she went for money, i.e tiger woods.

Why hasn't anyone asked his wife if the pics are his – they're all over the internet, it would take all of 15 seconds...but maybe the NFL will fine her too...

It doesn't really matter legally if the pics were of his package or some else's, all that matters is if they were sent by him or a third party. Sent by him and he's in trouble regardless, not sent by him and he's not in trouble even if they are legit full body shots.

Someone on the Jets gave him her phone number, she didn't give it to him. She was a Jets employee so a number of people had access to all of her info (phone number, address, etc). But she started this whole thing to make big money, so I doubt this is the end of it. "Someone 2 years ago sent me a dirty pic to my cell phone". Who cares? No one, unless the person doing the speaking is looking for a big payday – how is she even paying her lawyers for all of this time? She'll be suing the NFL and Favre by MLK day, guaranteed.
