An airborne single-engine plane collided with a medical-evacuation helicopter at Virginia's Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport on Friday, killing two people, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The incident involved a single-engine Cessna 172 and Eurocopter EC135 MedEvac helicopter, the FAA's Jim Peters said. The two who died were on the single-engine plane; the helicopter landed safely with no injuries aboard, the FAA said.
I work as a flight instructor in Florida. People who make their living in the sky around airports, meaning training, ambulance, news work, are exposed much more than say an airline pilot. When a pilot is looking down, for landing, it is very hard to see any object below. Because their focus is on the ground. A stationary object in the air is very! hard to see. Sometimes people seem cold in their discusson about crashes, but us pilots each have a vested interest in trying to figure out what happened. I think all pilots carry a little sadness for all crash victims, especially the innocent.
Is Anderson Cooper gay?
I have purrdy mouth anybody want to use it?
WHEEE!!!
The helicopter had Skywatch 497, a collision aviodance system . It picks up the the other aircraft's transponder signal and shows it on the GPS screen. Word is that Cessna didn't have a transponder. This airport has no control tower. It is a Unicom frequency airport. The pilots just announce there intentions in the blind.

» Wouldn't you be if your mom was Gloria Vanderbuilt?
Most mid air collisions occur around airports simply because that is where all planes are heading. I am sure it was pilot error on the part of at least one pilot. More than likely the lack of communication. Someone did not make his intentions clear.
*In order to avoid such tragedies in the future, they should start making the whole aircraft out of the same stuff they make the little black boxes out of. Those suckers survive every crash!
*Je'ver notice ALL of these collisions always occur 'mid-air' So...
Everybody should start flying just left or right of 'mid-air' thus avoiding the 'danger zone' that is so often responsible for these fatal crashes.
You are Welcome! 😉
JOYEMAZ,
You are a total POS!!! Single engine aircraft are safe, most maintained to a high standard. Of course, your filthy mouth wouldn't understand any of that. I am a pilot, and I fly to and from Weyers Cave frequently. I get my maintenance done there. People like you and others that don't know their butt from 2nd base should just shut the #$%^ up!!!
The trajedy is sadly another opportunity for the public to rush a judgement and show of stupidity on the internet.no matter what went wrong, people died.I escaped this same fate more times than I can remember as a flight crew member in army UH-1 helicopters. If the cessna approached the rotary craft from the rear and the helicopter was decending, the cessna
High wing and other factors come into the multiple error issue. It happened, its very sad, and I'm 100% positive the rotary wing pilot did not do anything wrong intentionally.a light bulb that cost less than a dollar caused the deaths on flight 401 in the everglades.the mistakes the crew made in addition to that simple light bulb were not criminal acts, but it should not have happened. No matter what went wrong here the igmorant public gets a chance to show there ass. The state of the world is easy to understand when you witness the number of cruel morons that think THEY are ok!
^^^^ Note: Utilizing this method of off-center (avoiding the middle) also works with your panties.
eg; if ^^^^ Cessna flyer ^^^^ were to keep his panties appropritely positioned both just left and right of 'mid-crack' they would not so frequently or easily get tangled up in a bunch. 😀 You're Welcome again.
And to all the psycho's out there, you should come to utah so it can be a endangered species sanctuary!
Note : this method of keeping off-center (away from the middle) also works with your panties.
example : if Cessna flyer were to keep his panties properly adjusted to just left and right of center they would not so easily or frequently get caught up in a bunch! You're welcome. 😀
