North Korea asks South to 'open hearts,' resume talks

South Korean officials tell CNN that they're reviewing a call for resumption of talks between Pyongyang and Seoul that was  published by North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency Friday.

The statement from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea suggested several steps that could be taken to calm tension between north and south.

It expressed a desire for "settling the grave situation prevailing in Korea as early as possible and paving the way for improved relations between the north and the south and peace and prosperity."

The statement cited both patriotism and "public opinion at home and abroad" as reasons that dialogue should be resumed.

Officials are working to understand the motivation behind the statement, a spokesman for South Korea's Unification Ministry said. High-level officials will hold an internal meeting Saturday to analyze it.

South would never accept unification with the North. SK is thriving and stable. Unification would mean absorbing all the unemployed, uneducated and impoverished people. It would be like the US stealing Mexico. Why the heck would we want to? I hypothesize that heII for those who so desire punishment and chaos would be free of such things. I'm sure God has a way of keeping a low life's mind intact while subjecting said low life to insufferable goodness and conformity. The low life would want to inflict pain but can't. A true eternity in a cage surrounded by nice stuff. That's where you're going Kim Jong Silver

I agree w whoever posted: "from sacred war to open your hearts"? Good question. What kind of nonsense plea is that? Does Kim think his southern brethren are idiots? He's already gotten away w killing some S. Koreans without having to pay the consequences. He's got to business asking others to have open hearts.

Perhaps Kimmy has finally seen the writing on the wall and has decided to extend a olive branch...maybe South Korea's arms testing 15 miles from the border of North Korea scared him into thinking he's not the only dog with a bite. One could only hope, anyway.

In any case, I think South Korea is smart enough to see Kimmy's meaningless gesture for what it is: a meaningless gesture!
