Oil in Trans Alaska pipeline slows to trickle

Only a fraction of the oil that normally courses through the Trans Alaska pipeline was flowing early Sunday after operators discovered a leak near Prudhoe Bay, a company spokeswoman said.

Crews making a routine inspection "found oil in the basement of a booster pump building" around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Aleyeska Pipeline Service. Company spokeswoman Michelle Egan, who said flow has been reduced by 95%.

On a typical day, 642,261 barrels of oil would pass through the pipeline.

"Crews are currently onsite to assess the situation and isolate the source of the leak," a company statement said..

All the more reason to stop using it for cars and electricity. We need that oil for the by products.

At 5% flow through TAPS, how will the crude maintain necessary viscosity in the meddle of winter (at Pump Station 1 in Deadhorse)??? There isn't enough thermal energy to keep the oil flowing for too long. TAPS/Alyeska could be in a world of hurt. These types of events lend more support to LNG production facilities on the Slope. One can only hope.

Wow, you actually have factual information about Prudhoe and the pipeline. Shocking. A) You work on the slope, and/or B)You know someone who does.
Additionally, Tracy is obviously a fact-less hater, who is incapable of honest debate. As are most liberals, fascists, and communists.

@scruplesrx I don't think anyone is saying no more fossil fuel,if there were alternatives, it would reduce the amount of drilling, thus lessening the chances of catastrophic disasters.

RkyMtnMan: Fox News Channel is in the entertainment and advertising business, not news. That's been obvious for years. They faxricate news stories and tell outright lies.

  7. If parts of the pipe line is owned by BP and Exxon we're in for a lot of trouble since both companies have had mass oil leaks in the past decade.

You are 110% correct Dawn. LIve not for things in this world. Strive every day to do his will and if you arent sure what His will is – ask Him – not talking about anything mysterious here – just ask Him in your own quiet time to guide you to do His will and that others might see Him in you. Oh, and I have a masters degree in engineering, married and 4 kids; dont think I qualify as a nut job – but not for me to say.

Which god are we supposed to give our lives over to? How are we to determine that the transaction occurred successfully? I suspect you're referring to Jesus, but what if we give it to the wrong god? If we're not supposed to be living for things in this world, why are we commenting on a CNN story about a leaky pipe? How, exactly, are we supposed to ask "Him in [y]our own quiet time"? Is that supposed to mean we have to talk to ourselves and listen to our own interior monologue and call it 'talking to god'? Why is something that's supposedly so simple raising so many questions?

Having "a masters degree in engineering, married and 4 kids" is not a confirmation of one's reason and good mental health, it's argumentum ad verecundiam - they must not make engineers take classes in logic. After all, you believe that a 2000 year old zombie carpenter who is actually three different people but at the same time one person has magic powers to hear the entire population of this planet, and possibly an infinite universe(s) talking to themselves in their heads, who can somehow respond to them and is going to 'take control' of each and every one those lives and do something specific to/with them; but those who do not talk to the god in their head will be subject to unfathomable eternal torment.

Sounds kind of crazy when it's put in plain English.
