Plane with 105 aboard crashes in Iran

A passenger plane carrying 105 people crashed in a snowy and mountainous region of northwestern Iran on Sunday, news agencies in the country reported.

Several people suffered severe injuries but at least 50 people have been rescued, the news agencies said.

At least 10 people with severe wounds were hospitalized, an emergency services official, Mojtaba Khalebi, said, according to the semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency.

"The number of dead has not yet been determined because the priority is to save those that have been injured first," the news agency quoted him as saying. "Not all of the passengers have been killed. A number are still alive."

Severe weather at the crash site is making rescue operations difficult, he told the news agency.

Fifty to 60 people were taken from the plane with injuries, the Mehr news agency quoted Gholareza Masoomi, the head of Iran's Emergency Services, as saying.

"Fortunately, reports say that plane did not explode upon impact," and the crash may have happened when the plane was already nearing its destination and close to the ground, the news agency quoted him as saying.

The crash happened near Orumiyeh, a city in the mountainous Azarbaijan province, the semi-official Fars news agency said.

The IranAir aircraft crashed near Lake Orumiyeh, said Gholam-Reza Masoumi, head of the State Emergency Center in Iran, according to state-run Press TV.

The Boeing 727 took off from Tehran after a one-hour delay and was flying to Orumiyeh, Press TV said.

Re: the crash may have happened when the plane was already nearing its destination and close to the ground,
» So...what Iran doesn't utilize any form or air traffic control or regulation? If it was on final approach, approaching for an emergency landing or taking off from somewhere... ergo : when the plane was already nearing its destination OR close to the ground wouldn't someone already have this information?
They should really have air trffic control over there with all those flying carpets.
But is probably right they'll most likely try to blame this on Israel or the U.S.
What a shame tho praying for the survivors & the lost lives.

Of course if the flight hadn't originated in in Iran, all the survivors would be held for espionage... but they would have //eventually// released the dead spies as a gesture of goodwill.

For those who claim the US does not sale Iran spare parts please read this.

While Iran has often complained that the United States does not allow Iran Air to buy spare parts for its aging Boeings, in fact, the Bush administration issued a license for such exports but Boeing has been unable to make a sale.

It doesn't matter that the plane was American or Russian or where ever !
It's about the age of the plane... It was 40 years old !!!
Iran had 3 Boeing 727s , one of them had a crash in 1996 and the second one had the same ending like the other one
    well , 1 more to go !!!
one more thing, as you know, the plane took off from Tehran after a one-hour delay... because of the weather ! Iran air had two other flights before this one which had been canceled by the pilots because of the weather ! The third one didn't take it seriously. So here we are !
It's not just about sanctions and the age of the planes! But I do agree if UN and what ever else really cares about innocent people's life here in Iran, they should support this industry of Iran !

With dec.high adjustment.but no1 cares.topoloves are available hardware and maintanance planes but have major prubloms.i am a pilot and i know pilots are sacrifising their lives in each flight but they put everything on us when an incident happens.
