Richard "Dick" Winters, a decorated hero of World War II and the central figure in the book and miniseries "Band of Brothers," has died. He would have turned 93 years old in February.
Winters died January 2 and was buried after a private funeral Saturday, according to retired Army Col. Cole Kingseed, a close friend and co-author of Winters' memoirs.
Winters began his career in the Army shortly before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, and he volunteered to become a paratrooper, according to his wartime memoirs "Beyond Band of Brothers."
FULL STORY
Truly sad to hear of the passing of a genuine American soldier and hero. Both my father and father in law were veterans of the world war that shaped our lives. Guys like Dick Winters stepped up and got it done and made no excuses or boasts when they came home. How can one not respect and admire such nobility. THANK YOU Major Winters for your service to this great land and may all your fellow soldiers from easy company welcome you back with open arms. You will truly be missed! On a side note, the series Band of Brothers should be adopted into the history classes throughout our high schools across the nation.
Well said
we would be speaking german if not for men like this.
Is there anyone left in this world who can comment on this story? Apparently this man has out lived everyone.
Well – hes dead now .... Thats sucks ...
Well – hes dead now .... That sucks ...
R.I.P
@ mmm. You're right. Most of us are too young to really comment. But none of us are too young to say thank you to these men for our freedom.
Such a sweet thing to say. You get a gold star with glitter sprinkles!
Mmmm You try so hard to be cute and clever. Well, at least you get a little response(attention) that you crave so much. Does it help when you back to the real world and your obscure, meaningless existence?
Oh yes it does...and a gold star and sprinkle glitters for you, too! Why Mr. Dufus has really outdid himself, today. A big bright sunshine for you after the snow passes...
Why can't we help all of our veterans (including Vietnam Vets)? My partner was in Vietnam, but cannot get health care benefits. Neither he nor I have health insurance. I was a teacher for 21 years, currently unemployed from an engineering firm and cannot find work (18 months of looking and applying). People who serve the country and the community are not appreciated...not helped enough for the invaluable service they have selflessly rendered. No, we are looking for cold rocky planets out in the universe....What's wrong with this picture?
Was your partner in Vietnam as a tourist or a soldier?
Don't get me wrong. I am one of the original trekkies....but we need help here on this beautiful blue marble.
Who do I have to phuk to get a job and health care Mmmmmm?
...or maybe your partner was a native of Vietnam.
Well, Mmmmmmmm, who?????
Do I look like the wizard of oz to you?
Army
Mmmmmmm, who went to Vietnam as a tourist in the 70's???
I wondering if you did?
Mmm you really enjoy being a little pr!ck, dontcha. . Make ya feel gd? Get a one up on the next guy and your all happy n warm inside huh. The sh!t that dribbles down your chin in here is a joke.
It sounds like you been opening too many homemade pickle jars...
