Press secretary: Threat made against Illinois U.S. representative

A staff member for Rep. Danny Davis, D-Illinois, received an e-mail over the weekend threatening the eight-term Democrat, Davis spokesman Ira Cohen said Monday.

Davis' office has filed a report with Capitol Hill police, Cohen noted. He would not say, however, if Davis had stepped up his personal security.

The threat came in the wake of Saturday's massacre in Tucson, Arizona, in which Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona, was allegedly targeted for assassination. Six people were killed - including a federal judge - and 14 were wounded in the shooting. Giffords remains in critical condition.

Davis has public events scheduled Monday in Illinois which he plans to attend, Cohen noted.

The congressman recently withdrew from Chicago's mayoral race.

I turned on Hannity to see if he would be having a civil discussion for a change. Sean and Bob Beckle were talking civilly about Gifford's head wound and hoped for a speedy recovery. Then they were trying to clear the air about how they are "friends" (no surprise there). Bob then took credit for the use of "targeting" on political maps when Sarah Palin's cross hairs ads came up. Apparently Dems use the same bulls eye style of maps in their campaigning. They then began arguing that we shouldn't jump to any conclusions about political rhetoric on TV (no surprise there). They then began to argue which rhetoric was worse: Bush bashing or Obama bashing?.. At that point I turned off the TV. Moral of the story is this: They like us at each other's throats. The people need to unite against the twisted media and politicians. No more fringe liberal vs fringe conservative arguments. Only the truth and compromise should matter.

      Duke,

It's a nice thought but unfortunately you can't compromise with people who won't compromise. You can't be civil to the uncivilized. They've proven themselves to be this way time and time again.

@Duke. I agree with you. Its all part of the plan. Keep the "little people" focused on minor things while they all drain this country dry. Wanna know what prople reall think? Turn off your TV. Go talk to your neighbors.

      onlyslightlyamused,

Really agree with the turn off the tv thing. I grew up watching the evening news. In 2000, I gave it up and have since just read the news from many sources on the web.

I don't need to be told what to think like the wingnuts on here. I'm able to think for myself.

Liberals, it's time to arm up. These people have no morals, no ethics and no plain and simple manners. The "tea party" is composed of a lot of neo-brownshirts and they don't care that unarmed innocent people lost their lives Saturday.

They won't take responsiblity for their words let alone their actions. They don't take responsiblity for anything like lying us into a war, wrecking the economy with their failed ideology and falied policies. They don't care abou the truth, they don't care about the country, they only care about their greed.

They'll do anything to get in power again. You might have noticed that we didn't have a "tea party" until we had a black president. Wonder why that is.

I also wonder why even though all republicans are not racists all racists are republican, just as not all republicans are anti-semites, all anti-semites are republican.

They don't care as they're cowards, plain and simple. Lying bullying cowards who'll stop at nothing and have no consciences.

So my advice is to arm up. They won't stop, they thrive on fear and hate.

Davis...can the people who are trully suffering keep the lime light without sharing it? You are a picture of health. I doubt anyone is after you.

It's the right-wing meme of the day. They get their marching orders (talking points) from Fox and talk radio. Notice how the meme for Monday was, "Free Speech" and "He's just a nut"? They can't think for themselves so they just vomit up what they heard on hate radio.

Gee, my parrot can do that.
