Palin says efforts to lay blame 'reprehensible'

Sarah Palin spoke out on the Arizona shootings Wednesday, calling the events "tragic" and sharply chastising those who have suggested charged rhetoric from her and others on the right may have motivated the killings.

"Like many, I've spent the past few days reflecting on what happened and praying for guidance. After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event," Palin said in a video posted on her Facebook page.

"Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election," the former Alaska governor said.

Palin's statements come in the wake of suggestions from some Democrats and media commentators that her political rhetoric over the last year may be linked in some way to the shooting Saturday that left Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in critical condition.

Some critics have cited a Facebook posting by Palin last march that placed a crosshair over several Democratic-controlled congressional districts, including that of Giffords. Palin also tweeted at the time: "Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!"

But in her statement Wednesday, Palin said any effort to connect statements by her or others to the shootings amounts to a "blood libel."

Attempting to attribute blame to Sarah Palin's, or any other persons , rhetoric is like agreeing that the Beatles really are responsible for Charlie Manson's actions by way of the direction given in the song Helter Skelter. REDICULOUS.....

I am so tired of Palin and the constant reporting on her as if she were relevant. She is not relevant, and on top of it all, she is terribly insensitive to put out a video to clear her name when so many people are in pain over the shooting. Her rhetoric is clearly not to blame for this shooting. Our weak gun laws are to blame for the shooting, and we need strong politicians (unlike Palin) who can step in and eliminate assault weapons on the street. Who needs assault weapons, aside from those interested in committing assault?

Those aren't assult rifles they're "sport utility rifles". Blaming an object is asinine at best. People need to put the blame where it belongs and that's with the person and not the object.

To have a political party that repels most people of "Color" says something!
To first recognize there is a problem people will start by admitting/having the ability to recognize there is a problem then having the knowledge to better what is really going on.
Certain Parties are NOT joined by people because of fear & hatred they feel, whether it is 'Openly' stated or not. There is a problem here with the speech being given freely by some, that offends many (others)of those who do NOT look like them, their offensive speech is (only) accepted by those who look & act like themselves!

Don't even go there with the race issue, Beth, or someone might suggest that 'people of color' join certain poitical parties only because they want to be taken care of and are hoping for a free welfare handout, which we know is not the case, RIGHT ?

@pcollen Blacks don't support the Republicans due to the same reason we don't support the KKK. Now, what baffles me is why trailer trash like you support the Retards? There are more whites on welfare and more millionaires recieve hand-outs than all of the aid given to blacks combined. Only wack-jobs like you support someone who can see Russia from their house, that the reason the murderer supported palin. It takes one to know one. Actually, your posts are scary and I will be reporting you to the FBI, just in case (we don't want an AZ pt. 2) Wacko!!

What "blood libel" has to do with this situation makes no sense at all as a Jewish spokesman explained what it really means. The way Ms. Palin is using it however sounds like just another word salad distraction to get people off of Ms. Palin's faults and erroneous view points. Just like Rush, Glenn, Ann and all the other shrill (YES! SHRILL!) neocons, none of which can seem to accept ANY KIND of responsibility for their words and actions for blaming the democrats, the leftists, the feminists, the socialists, and any other group of what is wrong in the country today. It never seems to be any of THEIR FAULT that people are rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate to the point of dangerous behavior. All the yelling, shouting, interrupting, scorn and even hatred has no affect on anybody according to these right-wing know-it-alls.
Well stand corrected people! Words do have affect on people! Words can hurt, maim and even kill. In the Pro-choice community, we have known this for decades. Almost every women's clinic doctor has been made into a target and assassinated by some right-wing extemist! So while people like Palin are tossing around words like "blood libel" I will be tossing my words or correction right back into their camp! Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter and others need to learn that we are ALL CONNECTED whether we like it or not! We do not live in a vacuum. With freedom of speech comes ADULT responsibility. Adult, mature responsibility. We are not bratty children who can claim Johnny or Sally is doing this or that also so therefore it is not our fault, when in reality it is. We are adults and need to act like adults! Here is what I emailed to Mrs. Palin a year ago:

Subject: Stop Your Hate Speech, Please

Ms Palin, if it is true that you posted on your web site to not retreat but to reload, you really, really need to reconsider what message you are putting out to people. You really need to understand that this message is dangerous, foolish and unnecessary in the climate we now have in this country. You need to take responsibility for your actions and recant words that are so emotionally charged like "Reload."

Ms. Palin, PLEASE think before you speak from now on. Words can hurt and words can kill. If anything does happen to any of the Democrats or any body else, it will be on your conscience. So THINK before you SPEAK!!!!!

I SENT THIS TO HER LAST YEAR!!!!!I never received ANY sort of response from her!!!!Now we are ALL paying for her words and the others like her!!!!!

So we can all either grow up and behave and speak responsibly or we can continue to play the blame/blame/blame game and never learn how to treat other people with respect and old-fashioned courtesy. It is way past time to grow up now!!!!Let us do so!!!!!

Why don't all you pro-Palin knuckle draggers GIVE ME A BREAK? Or better yet – read a book. I mean – if you can read that is. That might be a fallacious assumption on my part.

Why does racism an classism always seem to win. Even when innocent people die, the truth is still not being told. it is a fact that tea-prty base repubs are the cause for those lives lost. They breed hatred, just as they have pics of our president with socailist on here in Tx. when you listen on a cb its n- this an n- that. Sometimes i wonder if i teach my 4 to hate whites, even those that hve done nthng 2 them, u knw like they do, would they have a better life than I.

When you practice your right to free speech, and what you have to say is in poor taste, then you have to face the consequences. I have no sympathy for Sarah Palin. She put it out there. 'It' being the map with the cross hairs. She isn't responsible for the actions of a mentally ill young man, but she is a hypocrite who's being feed her own medicine. If she doesn't like it,well then tough.
P.S. Way to misinterpret "Blood Libel" Sarah.

Al righty then! The Nazis are POd because real people are tired of the VITROL SPEECH!!! So I guess that I should do the same tactics as they do! OK .... I suggest that we TARGET the retard from Alaska for immediate removal. I also suggest that we find Rand Paul, and put a boot to his head so that he may wake up. And Engle if you keep running your stupid mouth you may find your self knee deep in blood and revolution .... we will exercise our second amendment rights on you and your supporters! Now how do y'all feel about VITROL WORDS?????

    @28 Pcollin,
No it does not. It has to do with context. Your butchered partial quote does sound bad but he was talking in a metaphor about the republicans wanting a fight and how he was going to repond. Where Palin, Bachmann and Angle were talking to a crowd about inserection against the government by the taking up of arms.

    Hey Sarah,

How's that, putting gun cross-hairs on a map over the over the district of Gabby Giffords, working out for you?

Her offices were vandalized just days after you posted this map, she went on national TV to voice her concern over your actions and you left the map on your Face Book page! Oh, and you can't expect ANYONE to believe that those "cross-hairs" were the ones that "used by surveyors" when you attach the phrase, "Don't Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!"

It's a good thing you have some Face Book friends, because your political friends will avoid you like the plague.
