Palin says efforts to lay blame 'reprehensible'

Sarah Palin spoke out on the Arizona shootings Wednesday, calling the events "tragic" and sharply chastising those who have suggested charged rhetoric from her and others on the right may have motivated the killings.

"Like many, I've spent the past few days reflecting on what happened and praying for guidance. After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event," Palin said in a video posted on her Facebook page.

"Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election," the former Alaska governor said.

Palin's statements come in the wake of suggestions from some Democrats and media commentators that her political rhetoric over the last year may be linked in some way to the shooting Saturday that left Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in critical condition.

Some critics have cited a Facebook posting by Palin last march that placed a crosshair over several Democratic-controlled congressional districts, including that of Giffords. Palin also tweeted at the time: "Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!"

But in her statement Wednesday, Palin said any effort to connect statements by her or others to the shootings amounts to a "blood libel."

The only thing reprehensible here is that politicians from both sides of the aisle are going a little over the top to try and gain some political advantage off of this terrible tragedy. It's none of their fault, we elect them, so it's all of our fault..... and by that I mean all of you, I of course had nothing to do with it...

Sarah Palin needs to stop using "guns" as a major focal point of her message. I know she wants to impress us all that she can handle a gun and shoot animals just for the heck of it. I fail to see how telling people to "lock and load" contributes to the political process in this country. Putting "gun sights" on other politicians districts is not only distasteful, it sets a horrible example for our children. I live in a community that is struggling and overwhelmed by gangs and gun violence. I don't care to listen to anyone who wants to glorify guns as part of their political message.

I might suggest that the reason it took so long for Sarah Palin to put out this response was that she was waiting to see if there was any evidence in this kids possession, or on his computer to indicate if he had been influenced by her rants. While she may be correct in claiming that it was not her influence, for a short time no one actually knew for sure. This means that we should all be careful with our rhetoric, because the next time our words of hate may just play a hand in the violence that follows them. Those on the right are not fascist, and those on the left are not socialists. We are all Americans looking to make this a "more perfect union". Let us treat each other in this manner, and show that even from a tragedy such as this, good things can grow, and bring us together, to show how great a nation that the United States is.

Everyone shares blame in this. I notice the partisan children on this site are still bickering about which party is worse. Look at this country. Turn on the TV and most of the programming is depraved. Turn on cable news so you can see all the lies and spin. Now look at yourselves arguing like 2 year olds. Crosshairs and bulls eyes have been used since the 70s by BOTH parties. Bob Beckle was talking about the bulls eyes he helped create during a campaign in the 70s. All you morons don't even know the facts, yet you spew your partisan hate. A 9 year old is dead because this country is headed down the toilet. If you're going to be stupid then please move and take the rest of the stupids with you.

So people shouldn't blame her. Did she blame David Letterman and throw a hissy fit when he made a joke about her daughter (and I think it was meant for the older daughter). She twisted and twisted it until it made her and her family the poor victims of David Letterman. She even blamed him as part of the reason she stepped down as governor (rather than have to go to court for using her power of office to get rid of her brother-in-law).

People will lay blame where they want to, Sarah. You do it. Everyone does it. Don't act like you're blameless. You're the one with the bullseye targets on people. You're the lock and load shooter, you're the one who says "time to reload." It's like guns are so ingrained in you, if we elect you, we elect the NRA.

Grow up and stop acting like you never do anything wrong. Own it. Fix it. And stop blaming everyone else for your own shortcomings. It's juvenile.

Of course the guy was messed up in the head, he is a palin supporter. Who with half a brain, supports someone who claims to see Russia from their backyard???? Seriously? All of her hate spewing has come to fruition and dude "RELOADED" and killed innocent people. Why is so difficult to make a statement without spewing hate, is she that stupid that she can't stick to the issues. By the way, she looks very, very old. This shooting will be the death of her!!!

I viewed the whole video and watched cnn and fox. Cnn only shows the negative parts and fox only show the positive parts. We have to research for ourselve. If we take the media view, we don't have the whole story

I wonder who writes Palin's public announcements. There are far too many multi-syllable words and poetic phrases to have come from her pea brain. Which brings me to a thought; perhaps she isn’t entirely to blame for the hate filled remarks that flow from her pie hole. I would equate her to a two year old child that parrots whatever they hear without actually understanding the meaning. Perhaps attention should be paid to the wordsmiths behind the scenes. Who are these ghost writers? And what exactly are they hoping to gain by using her as a semi-literate political puppet?

Having said all that, I hope she doesn’t go away. She’s so entertaining. It’s kind of like watching an endless Ernest Goes To Washington movie.

She has REALLY aged since the shooting. She looks worried to death! This is the worst she has ever looked. Maybe, it's sinking in that she has to stop the hate speeches and she has nothing else to say. Dare I say, palin, your days are numbered. Since you are concerened with what America wants....AMERICANS DON'T WANT HATE SPEWING IN THE NAME OF POLITICS. And America doesn't want anymore children killed by your supporters! Take Mrs. Bush advice, stay your divisive a$$ in Alaska!!!
