Late Pope John Paul II takes step toward sainthood

The Vatican announced Friday that John Paul II will be beatified later this year, putting him on the verge of sainthood.

The beatification ceremony will take place on May 1, 2011.

The beatification, which will make the late pope "the Blessed John Paul II." probably will draw hundreds of thousands of faithful to St. Peter's Square.

I'm sure I'll be vilified for this, but good. He was an extremely good man, and I was so sorry when he passed. Sure, I don't agree with some of the Church's edicts, but his personal faith was inspiring, at least to me.

    Let the hatefest begin.....

Won't be long before those atheists are going to start whining, crying, and knocking down religion, so self-centered those people.

Im sure you guys are right. Wont be long and they'll come with hateful words. Trying to tear others down. How cold and empty a life with no faith whatsoever must be.

Good! Pope John Paul II was a very holy man, and he truly believed in the Church. He is an example to all, not just to Catholics, of understanding and compassion.

OK! Catholics need to think about what they are worshiping. If you took the time to read the Bible as the Bereans did in the Bible you would discover how bogus the Catholic "Religion" is! Not BIBLICAL AT ALL

As an atheist I think this is great news. Why are some people lambasting atheists? I don’t personally buy in to this or any other religion, but I don’t want people attacking my right to believe whatever I want, so why would I attack anyone else?

Does not caring how others choose to belive make me a hypocrite? If religion makes people happy then so be it. I think Pope John Paul was a good guy so it is nice to see him honored in his chosen religion. Just because I don't believe what he did doesn't make him or I a bad person.

Atheists are probably atheists now because they were once Catholics. Look at this bogus ritual the Pope is trying to get you to believe?

Atheists are just as stupid as you fools who look to the Bible to answer all your questions about the world so that you don't have to think for yourself.

Ever since mankind has looked upon things he does not have the capacity to understand, he has invented a god-myth to go with it. Humanity has existed for hundreds of thousands of years, and during that history many hundreds of thousands of different gods have been worshipped just as fervently as jesus christ. but you have the audacity and the arrogance to say that YOU religion is the ONE, the ONLY *TRUE* word of god? Chances are you're horribly wrong.
