Giffords off ventilator, hospital says

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been taken off a ventilator and is breathing on her own through a tracheotomy tube, the University Medical Center of Tucson, Arizona announced Saturday.

Surgeons on Saturday also inserted a feeding tube so the congresswoman could get nutrients.

In addition, one other person injured last Saturday's Arizona shooting - James Tucker, 58 - was released from the medical center on Saturday, leaving three people still at the hospital.

It always amazes me how unchristian so many "Christians" are. It's like when my 10 year old daughter spent the night at a friend's house and the friend's father told my daughter that I was going to hell because I am Jewish. What an idiot (you are).

I care. It's inspiring to see such a speedy recovery of someone that survived a bullet through the brain assassination attempt.

Do you really believe that Mrs Gifford is mending on her own ? We are seeing just one example of Gods miracles here on earth. Why would God protect a believer in killing children while she also wishes to protect killers by abolish the Death Penalty ? Only during her remaining life on earth will we find the answer.

Killing children? She doesn't support killing children. And it was the trauma center and the talented neurosurgeons that kept her alive.

Very confusing...... many of the comments begin with " Mrs. Gifford is a fighter....Mrs. Gifford is willing herself well.....Mrs. Gifford is doing this and doing that... " and then you will end by saying " she will be in my PRAYERS " IF MRS. GIFFORD is doing so well curing herself they why Pray to God. I would need to say " if you take a bullet in the brain you had better have someone other than yourself to intervene on your behalf. "

@bill..FYI, the killer was NOT a believer. Jared Loughner "don't trust God". What a big name with a brain of a bird.

And also, we believers believe that Mrs. Giffords is a fighter, yet we pray to God for her, coz WE BELIEVE that our STRENGHT, MIGHT, POWER, including (but not limited to) the AIR WE BREATHE comes from HIM.

We call it FAITH. And that's the thing your big name couldn't accept and your small brain can NOT comprehend, that's why you don't have it.

Is it really necessary to report every second, of every minute, of every hour, about her condition? Enough already.
Report her progress at the end of the day. So many people in this country really don't have a life!

My son endured a traumatic brain injury a few years ago. Trust me Gifford is making a miraculous recovery. May each day be a step closer to her full recovery. It's all about the baby steps. Blessings to the family.
