'America's Missing': Tionda and Diamond Bradley leave to play, never return

Editor's note: HLN is airing a special "Nancy Grace: America’s Missing" with the goal of trying to find 50 people over the next 50 days.

Nancy Grace will take a look at several cases around the nation in hopes of  helping to solve them. This was the fourth case.

[Updated Friday at 9:41 a.m.] Ten-year-old Tionda Z. Bradley and her sister, three-year-old Diamond Yvette Bradley were last seen on July 6, 2001 in Chicago, Illinois.

Their mother told police the girls were accustomed to being home along because she was a single mother and when she left that morning they were asleep on the couch, where it was comfortable in the summer.

But when she came home she found a note her oldest daughter wrote saying she was going to a store, then the school playground. They were last seen playing in the neighborhood, but nobody has ever seen or heard from them since.

"I believe that someone that was in close acquaintance with the mother of Tionda and Diamond took those children," Shelia Bradley-Smith, the girls' great-aunt told Nancy Grace. "The note, that was not the way Tionda spoke ... she was coached to write that note."

She also said there was a voicemail that said that "George was at the door."

An extensive search was launched by the girls' home, a nearby lake and even the cellar of the abandoned New Hope church - but they found no clues and the case remains unsolved.

Why is it that Nancy Grace and the media in general only cover missing child of African American descent when YEARS have gone by? Are we o nly allowed to look for cute li'l white children RIGHT AWAY? Don't get me wrong, its good this case are getting some exposure, its just a shame the kids were not white or we may have heard of there case before YEARS have gone by.

I'm in Australia and I ehard of these children in 2001- I remember them because my son was 6 months old when they disappeared. These children were in the media, some people probably didn't notice them though.

Timmy, you are mean and heartless....and most likely a danger to society. Do not be surprised, if you one day end up behind prison bars....or go missing. You are a pathetic and wretched animal.

Kids that young should never be left alone, whatever the reason!

I am so sad for these two young girls. The ten year old should never have been put in the position that she was in. She was just a baby herself. Something is wrong here, and it started at home. I pray that they are safe, but in this world that we live in, that would be a success story. God Bless these little girls.

I agree! Was the mother charged for leaving a 10 year old home alone with a 3 year old?

I remember seeing this story on the news (I'm from Chicago). There mother looked as if she had some issues with drugs, and she didn't even look upset about the lost of her daughters. My mother said way back in 2001 that she believed their mother knows who took them.

I remember this case. my first reaction was shock to learn that these babies where left to fend for themselves. In this day and age and with all this evil in this world you really cant trust anyone. To leave a 10 year old in charge of 3 year old while mom works is appalling. The perp obviously must have been keep an eye on this family and knew when to strike. You cant tell me she couldn't have qualified for some assistance for daycare...puh-leeze

I live in Chicago and I never forgot about these girls. I think about them periodically and can not believe that the girls or their remains have never been found. I would love to know what happened to them.

What kind of insanity do these women have, leaving a 10-year old and a 3-year old home alone? Mother should be flogged.

This is what happens when you leave young children alone. Had there been a babysitter, this would have never happened. I hope the girls are ok, and their mom never gets them back in her custody.

was the mother charged for negligence? A child that young should not be left alone with another child, single parent or not.

Right or wrong, A LOT of struggling single mothers (and fathers) leave children who are too young home alone while they work. I see so many people saying "kids this young should not be left home alone." I think that much is obvious, but it is so common, especially in the summer (these girls disappeared July 6).

So right "off topic." And not to fuel the sick, who should never be addressed as it just eggs them on, but Jim Brieske, your post are seriously disturbing. The last few days even more so. With your delusions of sounding like you're actually being there, maybe you should talk to someone who could talk you through.

Jo. Solving murders and figuring out body locations (which I have done in the past with a news person) requires asking, What did they do? It starts with the note from yesterday being used for today. That's the key. It changes the timeline. She had to change the timeline to succeed. Okay she does that. What could she do with the bodies?
      She can't bury them.
She can't stash them in her place.
She can't throw them in the river.
She can't put them in her car.
There is only one thing she can do. Put them in the dumpster outside before the trash guy picks it up in the early morning. Later on she calls the police. The girls are buried at the landfill and the police arrive then start working the case as a stranger abduction because of the note and what the mother tells them.

It's really easy to determine if my theory can progress forward. Three questions must be answered..
1.) Is the note timed and dated?
2.) If so, is it in the girl's handwriting so it matches the rest of the note?
3.) Was the garbage picked up that morning?

I can't believe a responsible mother would leave a 10 year old and a 3 year old home alone all day. What are these people thinking? ! Some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids!

Plenty of poor people leave their kids at home because they can't afford childcare. Where was their "responsible father"?

As a mother of 3 small children i really think it is horrible that someone would leave children that young alone. The mother should be punished for leaving them alone regardless of the children being found or not.

This should highlight to the World how much inexpensive childcare is required- where was their father?
