Jack LaLanne dead at 96

American fitness guru Jack LaLanne died Sunday afternoon at his home in Morro Bay, California, according to his long-time agent, Rick Hersh. He was 96.

The cause, said Hersh, was respiratory failure due to pneumonia. LaLanne had been ill for the past week.  His wife, Elaine, was at his side, along with his family and friends, Hersh said.

Jack LaLanne was a fitness "nut" – and I attribute that term with the greatest respect – before it was cool to be into fitness. Check out this link for highlights of the feats of physical strength & endurance he accomplished and at what age he accomplished them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_LaLanne

Living to 96 is one thing. Living to 96 and remaining active until open heart slows you down a bit at 95 is quite another. He lived a full rich life.

A gentle soul with a strong character and an even stronger body.

RIP, Mr. Lalanne, you were a heck of a dude.

That's all CNN could write? Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton pass gas and it's front page news. Really sad CNN, I thought you could do better.

That's it. It's YOUR fault! (Just kidding!).

Seriously, I hope you live to be this long. Enjoy your new toy.

Wow, Jack was an amazing guy! It doesn't surprise me that he lived this long.

Just this afternoon my wife bought a juicer (NOT a Jack LaLANNE) And I jokingly mentioned him and his juicer....so very coincidental.RIP

It's not only that he had a very long life - but the quality of his life seemed to be great...

Thanks Jack for being a true American Icon.

If you didn't have a reason to loose weight and get in shape then do it in honor of him.

My father went to Berkeley High School (Calif.) with him. Said he was a fitness fanatic even then. RIP Jack.

A true original in every sense of the word. An inspiration in every sense of the word. An iconoclast in every sense of the word.
A great man who, up to the end, was more hard-core than you!
Rest in peace, and thank you for everything.

I remember him from morning TV. When I do jumping jacks I still think of him.

He seemed to be in as good a shape as one could be up to the end. Looking around at all the health related problems we have in this country, many could still learn a lot from Jack.

Not only did this guy make it to 96, he made it in better shape than many of those (yeah, me too) sitting on our backsides and posting here tonight. Good for him. I hope he was as nice a guy as he appeared to be. Condolences to his wife.
