Follow CNN's coverage of the terrorist attack at the Moscow airport

[Updated at 11:18 a.m.] Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a television address that the Monday bombing at a Moscow airport was a terrorist attack.

He further said that he postponed his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, because of the bombing.

NATO condemned the attack and urged greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said British officials are "in urgent contact with Russian authorities to establish the facts and to provide consular support to any British nationals who may have been affected."

[Updated at 10:51 a.m.] Footage from inside Moscow's Domodedovo Airport showed several police in a smoke-filled section of the airport.

There were several bodies lying on the floor, and video from another part of the airport showed paramedics rushing by with people on stretchers.

[Updated at 10:38 a.m.] A suicide bomber was responsible for the blast at Moscow's Domodedovo Aiport on Monday, Russian state TV reported.

The station said the handmade bomb was stuffed with metal objects to increase shrapnel from the explosion.

The state-run ITAR-TASS news agency said the explosion occurred at the international arrivals section of the airport. Another state media outlet earlier said it happened at a baggage claim area.

[Updated at 10:33 a.m.] As police went on high alert around the capital city, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called security chiefs to an emergency meeting at the Kremlin to discuss the situation.

[Updated at 10:06 a.m.] Flights destined for Moscow's Domodedovo Airport are being redirected to other airports in Moscow, either Sheremetyevo or Vnukovo, according to Russian TV.

Domodedovo is located about 14 miles southeast of Moscow, and the airport's website says it's the largest and busiest of the airports in the capital.

[Updated at 10:04 a.m.] State TV is reporting that the blast at a Moscow airport erupted at the baggage claim area, killing 31 people.

The Health Ministry provided the media outlet with the death toll, it said.

CNN is seeking details on the Russian Investigative Committee report that terrorists are responsible for the explosion.

[Updated at 9:53 a.m.] The Russian government is confirming the death toll of 31 people and says 130 people were injured in the Moscow airport blast.

[Updated at 9:48 a.m.] Russian state TV reported 31 people are dead and more than 100 others were injured in an explosion at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow.

In a post on its website, the Russian Investigative Committee is blaming terrorists for the attack.

[Updated at 9:37 a.m.] The explosion at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport killed at least two people and injured 20 others, according to the official RIA Novosti news agency.

Russia's Investigative Committee confirmed the blast, saying 20 people were affected, although the extent of their injuries was unclear.

State TV said the explosion occurred at the baggage claim area of the airport.

The explosion occured at 4:40 p.m. in Moscow, RIA Novosti said.

[Posted at 9:24 a.m.] An explosion has occurred at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, Russia's Investigative Committee said.

Who wants to bet TSA is going quote this incident as an excuse to even further overstep their boundaries, despite the fact this didn't happen in the US?

Todd...I hope they don't rule out the American Christian Tea Party members, American Republican, American Libritarian, or American Democratic Party . They are well known for these types of tactics; Right?

Honestly pull your head out of the hole and look at the world with open eyes.

Hey booyah, Islam is not a place, it's a belief. Your statement makes as much sense as saying "nuke Buddhism" or "nuke astrology." Nuclear weapons are material objects, they can't blow up imaginary things.

Even if they hate Russia, why do anyone want to kill innocent people if they are not terrorists, they can deal with people in the govt who makes decision, not the people who visiting relative, friends and innocent people.

That, dear Ana, is why it is called terrorism. In the hopes of creating enough fear and unrest in the general population to force the Powers That Be to fold to the terrorists demands. Problem is, the terrorists haven't figured out that doesn't work.

Russia always had a problem with Chechens. And to all of you asking how do you know it was Muslims, think about this one how many other religions strap a bomb to themselves and blow it up in the middle of a busy airport. And by the way just in case you were wondering Chechens are Muslims and they responsible for a large number of attacks such as this in Russia. Remember that school in Beslan, Russia that is a grave yard to over 300 kids? Guess who did it? Chechens = Muslims. And this is just a one example and there are dozens. So for all that make stupid comments just do everyone a favor and leave the site. For all the Muslims out there, we understand that not all Muslims are responsible for these attacks but this is how it works, you don’t show us an effort maybe towards trying to get rid of the terrorist in your own countries if anything else you let them rule your countries. So what do you suggest we should do? As far as it goes all Muslims are terrorist, if you don’t like to be labeled as that that, than do something about yourself for a change show us that those that are responsible for things like that are not welcome in your countries, fight them anyway you can because they make YOU look bad, and because of that you all being affiliated with terrorists.

If I seem to remember correctly, the Iraqi coalition forces are being trained by our military to handle the terrorist situation in Iraq, so that when we pull out of Iraq completely, they will take over. In Afghanistan, the Shinwari tribe allied with the US and Afghan government forces against the Taliban. And finally, Pakistani military forces are combating Taliban forces, as well as their allowance of our use of drones. So you can't really say that there have been no efforts by the people of these countries to combat terrorism, because that's just plain wrong.

Why do Muslims always make this a race war? It's not about ethnicity. There are plenty of non white people who oppose Islam. You are not convincing anyone that this is really a race war so please don't try. Cheyneyans are white and Muslim.
